Why is humming coming from speaker when mic is keyed?

this is strange as most times if a proper transmit key is depressed , then the radio switches from receive to transmit , the mfg know this would cause some great squeal from receiver /transmitting so close to a receiver so the part that is the receiver is muted to keep this from happening , id say there is some fault in the part that does this muting of receiver

Galaxy DX 55HP stopped transmitting, but will receive. When the mic is keyed the power meter goes past max and wont transmit. Tried different mics and no difference

connect to a meter. if there is rf power on a watt meter at full wattage. then the am regulator transistor is bad. less than $5 part.

Cb works but there is no sound

turn volume and mic gain half way up, plug in an external speaker into the PA jack, flip PA switch and key up, if it doesnt squeal your audio final is blown or it could be so simple as mic wired wrong or broken wire. try another mic.

Cobra 29 ltd classic: i can hear other cbs but can not transmit out also the light is out on the meter

The most likely cause broken wire in mic a nice Roadking 56 would be a nice addition with better audio than factory mic.
The meter light is unrelated they burn out and can be replaced without replacing meter. Different colors and rainbow lights that chenge if you prefer. I find them annoying.
Good luck
Cobra Highgear mics are sold in Pilot truckstops that is a cheap replacement. There are the versions basic, noise cancelling and power mic. The power mics are for stock unmodified radios and will mostly squeal on a tweak radio from cb shop.
Durablity and quality audio tone for the price goes to the RK 56 mic they are about 70 bucks with tax at pilots.

Radio squeals part time and meter only goes up half way when keyed up

you have a Microphone problem.. change your Mic. Mine done the same thing when Mic wires shorted together inside of the handpiece. Also, when it doesn't match the Ohm impedence. you can buy a replacement Mic at www.copperelectronics.com or Radio Shack.

My radio recieves ok but only whistles when i key the mike is this a major fix?

Do you have talkback installed? It my be too loud and causing feed back. Back the mic gain down if so.

Could also be improper mic wiring. If you use a mic that is wired for a different radio, it could just cause a hum, buzz or squeal.

Another thing that can cause a hum, buzz or squeal is a faulty volume and or squelch knob depending on the radio.

  • Turn down or disable talk back.
  • If you cannot turn off or disable talk back, lower mic gain.
  • Try a different mic that you know is wired for cobra.
  • Play with volume and squelch knobs while TX and see if it stops at all. If it does replace knob.

CB Squeal When Transmitting

I believe the coiled coax may indeed be the problem. To check, try a temporary rerouting of the cable which eliminates the coils. Dave g.

Dosy meter

To read peak and dead key, use one length of coax between the radio and the input side of the input connector, and another length between the antenna connector and either a cb antenna or a dummy load. Then put the far right knob on either the 20, 200, or 2000 watt setting, which you will read on its corresponding scale on the meter. When you just push the ptt switch on your cb mic without talking, that will be your dead key. When you talk into the mic, most people repeat the some of the following "audio", "audio 1", "audio 1, 2, 3" etc. (kind of like a dj saying "testing") different ways, or you can put your mic up to the radios speaker and use the high pitch squeal for the same effect to read PEP or peak-envelope-power.

If you do not have a manual and would like one, here is one in pdf format that covers the PM1000 and PM2001 models:
