HOW DO i SET TIME ON A 43-3829 ANS MACHINE???

Hello,

One thing Radio Shack's answering machine [model number 43-3829], is NOT, is intuitive. But I guess you know that already. ;-)

To set the date and time, perform each of the steps below in quick succession, otherwise the machine will drop you out of the process and you’ll have to start over. You have about five seconds between each step, so try and make a mad dash for the finish line (Steps 4.-5.).

Setting Date and Time on Your Answering Machine:

(To set Day…)

1. Turn the answering machine on and hold down the TIME SET/CHECK/>> button until it beeps twice.

2. Press ANNC/DAY/<< repeatedly until the correct day displays / is indicated.

(To set Hour…)

3. Press REC repeatedly until you reach/hear the correct hour.

(To set Minutes…)

4. Press >|| (PLAY) repeatedly until you hear the correct minute(s).

(To Review/Confirm...)

5. Press TIME SET/CHECK/>> once. The machine will play the time and day you entered.

Note:

To exit/cancel the time- and date-setting mode, press ON/OFF/STOP once.

Hope this helps! If you have additional questions, please let me know and I’ll do my best to help.

How can I change the Rings to Answer setting to one ring?

Set the number of rings before answering
If you turn on the Auto Answer setting, you can specify how many rings occur before
incoming calls are automatically answered.
The Rings to Answer setting is important if you have an answering machine on the
same phone line as the device, because you want the answering machine to answer
the phone before the device does. The number of rings to answer for the device
should be greater than the number of rings to answer for the answering machine.
For example, set your answering machine to a low number of rings and the device to
answer in the maximum number of rings. (The maximum number of rings varies by
country/region.) In this setup, the answering machine answers the call and the device
monitors the line. If the device detects fax tones, it receives the fax. If the call is a
voice call, the answering machine records the incoming message.
To set the number of rings before answering via the control panel
1.
Press Setup.
2. Press Basic Fax Setup, and then press Rings to Answer.
3. Enter the appropriate number of rings by using the keypad, or press the left or right
arrow button to change the number of rings.
4. Press OK to accept the setting.

Setting the voicmail

Voicemail or telephone answering device (TAD). There is a BIG difference. Voicemail is product of your telephone service provider. If you have voicemail, most providers have a solution to this that you must arrange through them. If you have an answering machine, you can set your Brother to TAD mode. In TAD mode, if your answering machine picks up, (you must set your answering machine to answer in less rings than your fax), your fax will "eavesdrop" to listen for the fax tones from the sending machine. If it hears these tones, it will disconnect your answering machine and accept the incoming fax. If it does not hear the tones, it allows the answering machine to record the incoming message. If you are home. If you answer the call and hear a tone every 2.5 to 3 seconds, that signals an incoming fax. Simply touch *51 on the keypad of the phone you picked up on. You will hear some shrill tones. That is your fax machine attempting to receive the incoming fax. Hang up the phone you are on and it will receive the fax. In any case, make sure that the receive mode is NOT set to AUTO. Set the receive mode to TAD or MANUAL. If these instructions were not clear enough, let me know and I will send you DETAILED instructions. You can find the manual here: http://www.brother-usa.com/Data/Documentation/Fax/User/UM_FAX2820_FAX2920_MFC7220_MFC7225N.pdf If you need additional assistance, please let me know before you rate this solution. Hooking up a fax machine on home telephone line

Well... the problem is that you are running two machines on one line. ONE of them has to take predominance. Both machines should have settings for "number of rings to answer at". It sounds like you currently have the fax set to less than the answering machine, so the fax picks up after two rings, while your answering machine might be set to more, which it never gets to, because the fax answered the call already(It doesn't matter if you answer the phone, or the fax picks up, once the line is open, the answering machine is taken out of the equation). Even if you set the answering machine to answer first, you're then taking the fax service out of the loop. I'm not sure how you're going to juggle that, since both types of machines each need control over the line to work properly. That's why we (business machine folk) always recommend a dedicated line for fax service.
