Question about Minolta X-700 35mm SLR Camera

1 Answer

After my two minolta cameras X-700 & X-370 were stored 12 years, I decided to check them out. I installed Fress batteries in them, switched them on and.... nothing deader than a doornail. any suggestions? Thank You, Toby

Use or buy a brand new battery from store that sell lot of them.

Do not get from store that only has a few, meaning they have been sitting there for years.

Look at the bottom of the camera and you'll see what looks like a large slotted cover. The battery is located in there.

I have a minolta x-370 film camera and the film release switch won't advance. Is there any way to fix this on my own? Or should I take it to a camera shop?

first make sure the batteries are fresh. Also if you cannot go to a camera store for battereies, DO NOT let any drugstore of grocery put 357 watch batteries in it. The 357 battery is the same size and voltage but does not have enough power to run a camera. If the battery is not the problem then it will have to sent to a qualified repair facility. This is not a user repairable problem.

MINOLTA X 300 SHUTTER RELEASE JAMMED. FITTING NEW BATTERIES DOES'NT HELP AT ALL. Barry.

The Minolta X-series (X-300/370, X-570, X-700) were known for this issue. Two capacitors under the top and bottom covers go bad over time. They prevent the shutter from releasing, so you cannot wind to re-**** the shutter. If you're handy at these things, you can buy the caps, remove the covers, solder in the new caps, and be fine. This issue is well known and you can find instructions on the web. Or you can send it in for repair. Garry's Camera repair in Niles,ILL will do it cheaply at $58 incl return postage. Metering lights are the LEDs that light up in the viewfinder. Camera on, look in the viewfinder to the right side you will see some lights. As long as these lights come on, P, M, A, *, ^ ,- You have put the batteries in correctly, and they have juice. Otherwise, you got the wrong batteries or put them in backwards.

New batteries...yet it still does not function.

Was the battery's removed before storing camera? If not corrosion on battery cap and contacts in battery holder. Clean with a pencil eraser, careful with the contact in battery comp.
If not fixed then you have flex circuit problems and that means your camera is a" paper weight" as no parts are available for this model.
