This printer does not have a printer paper jamb. All rollers are clean. there is a light on the front of the printer thats flashing. It wont print anything. Printer worked fine until I replaced the color cartridge.

  • jeffreylmill Mar 31, 2011

the blinking light is # 4 the attention light. No E displayed

  • jeffreylmill Mar 31, 2011

I dont see anything that has helped me, I went completely thru the blinking lights link.

  • jeffreylmill Mar 31, 2011

I have to leave to be somewhere shortly...Back in 1 Hour.

  • jeffreylmill Apr 01, 2011

Looked at page 79 , maybe have fatal error? Unplugging it wont fix the problem.

  • jeffreylmill Apr 01, 2011

I have removed both cartridges numerous times & replaced them. I know how to put them in. There are no paper jambs!!!!! Lights flashing Exclamation point flashing . Every time I turn the printer on the printer head slams from side to side a few times & then nothin happens. I have reset everything , unplugged it, restarted the PC . Page 79 in the manual was a little confusing but Im betting on the Fatal Problem. All it says is unplug & turn off.....thats not helping me. I cant be the only person that ever had this problem. Can this be fixed? Im tired of messing around.

  • jeffreylmill Apr 01, 2011

Yes I still have flashing light with old cartridge in. No Warranty.

  • jeffreylmill Apr 10, 2011

I uninstalled the printer driver & then re-installed the printer driver software. Didnt make any difference, still does the same thing. Im guessing the printer has a fatal error. says turn off device & unplug. Thats not helping me. Can the printer cartridge be re-aligned or do I need to throw it away & buy a new one. Tired of screwing around.........Thanks

If you put back the old cartridge do you still have the flashing light? Basically on the manual it will tell you the fix on the problem. By the way do you still have warranty on the printer?

Hi - Basically i wont advise to purchase a new one since the one that you are using is a new one and after reinseting the old cartridge you still have the error. The Fix on the manual did not resolved the issue so most likely this is a hardware problem with the printer. Unfortuantely there is no warranty for the printer then the only solution left was to bring it to a service center to have it check

Hp 4480 how do you unpause it

The HP F4480 likely has a malfunctioning ink cartridge which is causing the printer hang (i.e. internal micro-electronics damage inside the HP 60 color or black ink cartridge). You can verify the electrical condition of both HP 60 ink cartridges by activating the Tap 41 diagnostic test report (see video here for complete instructions):

http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=440 (HP 60 - Deskjet F2400/F4400/F4500 models)
1.While holding the Power button, press Cancel (X) button 4 times, then press the Color Copy button once.
    2.Release the Power button.
3.The 'Tap 41' diagnostic test print should print.

Providing the color cartridge is partially functioning the Tap 41 diagnostic test print will be printed (this is a forced service print test which is mainly used for the evaluation of ink cartridge electrical health). A good HP 60/60XL color cartridge should display 1248 good nozzles, while a good HP 60/60XL black ink cartridge should show 336 good nozzles. If the results yield anything different then the ink cartridge is likely damaged and will need to be replaced. Refer to 2nd video on how to read the printout.
    http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=440 (HP 60 - Deskjet F2400/F4400/F4500 models)
    http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=444 (HP 60 - Deskjet F4200 model)

If the printer attempts to print the diagnostic test pattern (1 page) then the printer is generally considered operational and functional, if nothing is printed, but the printer attempts to print the pattern, then the tri-color ink cartridge is either empty, clogged or severely electrically damaged (black ink cartridge is not used). You can remove the tri-color cartridge, reactivate the tap 41 test and the printer will print the diagnostic test print in black ink.

My hp Color Laserjet 3550 Printer wont print black when it is out of color ink

The 3550 won't print in any color if any of the colors are out. You'll have to replace the color ink that's empty to get it to print.

In the future, if you're just printing black and white, you can select "Print in Grayscale" from the print properties to just use the black ink cartridge, which will help the color cartridges to last longer.

My J4680 only prints color, no black. Printer is

Your black cartridge is most definitely clogged. You can easily check that by removing the cartridge and press the print head on some tissue. If there is no mark, the print head on your black cartridge is clogged. Now, HP has some kind of software head cleaning. It doesn't always work, but you can try. Here is a link to HP site, referring to your problem: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01361894&cc=bg&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3692888
Read carefully and follow the instructions.
If that doesn't solve your problem, you should buy a new black cartridge.
Also, bear in mind that with ink-jet printers, you need to print something at least once in 10-15 days, otherwise the print head will again get clogged and you will be facing the same issue over and over again. If you do not print on a regular basis, make some kind of test page, that contains black, yellow, magenta and cyan. Print that page once in 2 weeks and your printer will always work fine.

The black ink print is very very faint

Indicates that the printer is using only color ink to create a black color. Check printer settings to see if you can set it to use only black cartridge. Also try printing with only the black cartridge inside if the printer permits, this way you can be sure if the black print head is faulty.

Ink cartridge light keeps blinking

you need to print only in black if that is all the ink you have, and also you need to remove the color cartridge as it still registers in the printer as able to be used, although it is empty or near so. Did you remove the tape over the print head fron the new ink cartridge? Do a print head alignment, or use the toolbox icon to tell the printer that you just replaced the cartridge. Some HP models chip the ink cartridges so even a refill wont register as a full tank and the printer wont print. chip needs to be reset (difficult) or just replaced with a new cartridge.

New Ink cartridges registering as empty ...

Is it an HP printer? We had the same problem at work with print cartridges purchased at Staples. They have a major quality control problem. Your new print cartridge may be empty or dried out (died on the shelf). It's my problem at work, as I have over 80 HP deskjets, and Purchasing still insists on buying the Staples cartridges rather than the HP.

Sometimes if you shake a print cartridge really hard it may correct the problem. However, I would buy or borrow a black HP print cartridge and try it out in your printer. Works almost every time on the job. Good luck.

I had exaclty same problem - black not printing - was about to buy a new printer but did the following as a last resort about a month ago - remove the ink cartridges - removed the head and sat it on an a tissue - into the 'well' where the printer cartridges sit I dropped into there a very small amount of water as if to 'wash it through' where the ink would flow, (about a quarter tea spoon) - agitated it a bit - this flushed thru the gaps were the ink goes - I cleaned it all up - dried it with a tissue - put it all back together - it works fine now ! This was a last resort option for me but I guarantee it did work !
