Question about Canon 3045 Black and White Copier

I have smudges running width way on my copies. I have cleaned the **** glass and the roller. I do not know what else it could be.

Hello Tampa,
It sounds like you have done all you can as an end user. The cleanings you have done as far as the scan glass goes would certainly have taken care of "lines". You have smudges. I feel confident that the drum is fried. The drum is good for 75,000 to 120,000 copies depending on the enviroment/manner of usage. The drum is relatively easy to replace on YOUR copier. In fact it contains rather good instructions whithin the box. I'm serious YOU can handle it. The part number is 9630A004BA. Canon will not sell "parts" to an end user but the drum on your copier is considered a "consumable".......kinda like toner and can be purchased the same way since it's not a "part". You should be able to order it in the same manner and from the same source as you do toner. Now, you WILL need a screwdriver to do this but it is so simple that you can just laff your **** off at the guys as you solve the problem !!! :-) As I say, the instructions are darn clear. Worst case is that you will have already purchased the drum (no markup from local dealer) and its there on site so "MR TECH" has to merely put it in. I already see you smiling from having fixed the problem. :-) take care . SPINAL

see if you have the lines if you make a copy without putting original in the auto doc feeder if so its either drum or fuser roller if not then clean the narrow piece of glass next to the copy glass use alcohol

My officejet pro 8500A prints black vertical lines down the page when I make a copy. I have cleaned and aligned the printheads. What else can I do?

Happened with me too. Turned out to be a small sticky smudge on the ADF glass. That is the smaller glass scan area to the left of the large glass scanning area.
When using the ADF to scan or copy, make sure the smaller glass area is clean along with the rollers.

When printing dark line down copy

A line down the copy can come from a dirty document scanner lens.
Usually white out or wet ink will smudge on the document scanner. Opening the document cover check the scanner for a dirty glass. Some document feeders have the white roller on top of the small glass window. They have delicate plastice retainers that hold the roller on both ends. Extra care needs to be taken if this roller is removed.
Clean the roller and the glass with wet towel. Shine a flashlight on the glass to see if there are anymore black marks on it.
Use the finger-nail to run across the glass and make sure no debris is on it. Even a spot can make a line on the copy.
Also, a bad fuser roll can cause a black line on the copy. A defective drum unit can cause a line on the copy as well.
If all else fails place a Xerox service call for this problem.

The copies come out with a black smudges on them

This can be one of several problems -
Dirt on the glass - (or inside)
Dirt on mirrors.
Failing ioniser or HT circuit
Failing or dirty electrostatic roller.
Failing toner scraper blade
Damp paper
Dirty heated (fuser) rollers (most common failure)

Most items that are likely to fail should be easy to get to - so remove and clean these first - then check again.

Black vertical lines in copies

You need to clean the glass. Open up the feeder and you have a large piece of glass for scanning and to the left a smaller piece of glass that it uses to scan from the feeder. Clean this smaller piece of glass; even the slightest smudge can leave a black streak.

Vertical Light Streaks on text documents, both single and duplex

Clean the glass thoroughly using Isopropyl alcohol. Dont use solvents. Check if there is any scratch on the glass. Repeated scanning with stapler pins can scratch the glass. If it is scratched, you may need to chage it.

Gestetner 2722z copier, new drum, new transfer belt, smudges yet

The image is not transferring properly..........

remove and clean all corona wires (thin wires that create the latent image) use a q tip and dip in rubbing alcoholhot

Also make sure the fuser rollers are hot(insert or trick safety switches to determine if the fuser lamps are lighting usually upper and lower

Also check the imaging lamp to be sure it does not have any dark burn marks on it and clean the mirrors and the glass under the coy area

The problem is not your scanner, is in the rollers, the rollers are smudged with ink or other mateial or your glass is smudge, remove the four star bolts on the top and clean the undersurface of the glas with a conventional glass cleaner wipe and re install the top cover.Be careful with the ribbon cables connected to the circuit board.

Improve print quality

If you have changed drum AND toner, and reset drum count, cleaned scan slit glass on lit then only other thing to clean that can cause dirty prints is laser glass, (remove drum, inside where drum goes there is a slit the rund width of printer on inside middle "ceiling"

The orange piece I take it is the lower heat roller at rear, cleaning this is not going to fix anything.. this area called the fuser sometimes the fuser wears the coating off the upper heat roller (above orange one) and leaves like a smudge mark on prints, like I say cleaning wont fix replacingfuser with new would be what is required

I find a lot of grey shading on prints on this model are from faulty toner cartridges, next is drum then worn fuser roller... Stop a print half way (timing) in machine remove drum and look at print, after drum but pre fuser ,to see if image is ok before entering fuser, then we know if that is your problem
