SOURCE: Brother 5240 laser printer changed toner still wont work.

When a brand new toner is inserted it has a switch that is activated when new cart is installed.

Machine has two toner light errors blinking is toner low, full on is toner out all stop,

I guess yours has not reconised new cart, was it new out of a sealed box?

If so then it failed to reset upon install

You can pull apart reset lever on left front of cartridge and reset to original position if you want to get just a little tecnical

One sctew carefull gears fall off ,white lever needs to be fully to rear of slot to emulate new cart status..

If brand new cart return to supplier as faulty.

If you just refilled it, go buy a real one to prolong life of your product

SOURCE: How do you replace the drum properly on a Brother

Out with the old and in with the new, you remove the toner and drum together, remove the toner from the old drum by pressing the blue lever on the side, install the toner in the new drum, and re install in the printer. With the front door open press the go button til all lights flash and then close the door, the new drum is reset.

Paper jams just before it comes out. Complete image has printed but the page doesn't "come out", gets jammed. If doing 2 page print usually only half of the second page will print as it backs up behind 1st...

This sounds like a classic fuser failure. Take the printer to a qualified repair facility and they can replace the fuser and check all of the fuser and exit drives for proper operation.

Prints thick black lines

Hello, Andrea.

Sounds like either your printer needs a new fuser assembly (If the teflon roller gets scratched or starts to disintegrate you will get lines or black marks on the page) or you need a replacement toner.

Hope this helps.

Brother Laser HL-5240 has a status light and toner light. Fuser was replaced but no help.

that error usually indicates that the toner has reached its end of life
or the drum is not properly installed.

i had one person who put the toner in but threw the drum cartridge away.

HL-5240 paper stops before fuser

Your problem is actually the fusing assembly. It has a bad lower roller. It can be viewed by opening the rear door and then the inner rear door. Unfortunately it requires replacing the full fuser and it's expensive. Approx. $170.00.

I know the news is not good but hope it helps you.

Call Brother if it's still under warranty! If not, stocks them at approximately $170.00

Black roller marks on right side of paper

Sounds like you have a bad fuser assembly if the drum unit didn't solve the probelm.

Unfortunately your problem is with the fusing assembly. This is not a cheap part at all. It's available at for around $170.00. The problem is the lower silicon roller in the fuser. If you open the back door and then the back inner door, you can view the fuser. The part your looking at is the orange roller. It will either be wrinkled, ballooned, or separating the outer clear sleeve from the inner core. The last one is a little harder to see without a flashlight or similar. If you look close, you'll see the clear silicon oil inside between the outter sleeve and orange core. If the printer is still under warranty, call Brother for a replacement fuser. I know the news is not good but, hope that helps you.

HL-5240 Appears to need new toner but that didn't fix it.

If the marks on the page appear to repeat three or four times down the page regardless of what is printed, it could be the drum unit ( the unit the cartridge fits into) You can test this by taking the cartridge out of the drum and looking at the cylinder in the drum unit. If has light coloured bands, or looks very black, then it is at or past its life cycle ca20-25k pages. If it has clots of toner stuck to it but is otherwise ok, you could carefully clean it with alcohol and a cotton ball to remove the toner clots. Steady and patient is more rewarding than trying to grind the stuff off. If the drum looks reasonably clean, open the flap at the back of the printer and look closely at the fuser. If there are clots of toner stuck to the orange pressure roller or to the grey/tan fuser roller, then the fuser will need to be taken out and cleaned also with alcohol, cotton ball and much patience.
