Question about Compaq Computers & Internet
Try to run the cd on another system. if the computer recognizes that there's a cd in the drive, that may mean that your DVD Drive may be going bad. Usually DVD Drives dont fail all at once. it happens gradually. 1st it stops playing some dvds, then it stops playing dvds altogether

Sounds like a piece of the laptop's hardware has died. Best bet would be to contact the place where you purchased it from or take it back to them. If it is a hardware failure then it will be under warranty and they should replace the faulty piece of hardware or give you another laptop that is the same as this one.
Hopefully this won't be a recurring thing for you or your daughter as it can be a time consuming effort to get it replaced or fixed all the time.
