Question about Kenmore 73502 / 73504 / 73509 Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Defrost solution didn't last....

I appreciate your help so far on my bottom freezer Kenmoore. You helped me out a few weeks ago and the defrost seemed to be occuring, but did not last. it has been 2 weeks and the coils are frozen solid again. the defrost is not happening. I turned the defrost timer 1 click and ultimately didn't change anything. it cooled for 2 weeks and then froze. you finished the last thought talking about replacing the heater circuit. which part would you suggest? you said it was probably not the defrost timer...maybe the heater/evaporator? I want to replace the correct part.
what other info might be useful in helping me figure this one out?

thanks in advance.

If it does not defrost after turning the timer then the problem is further into the defrost circuit. If it does defrost when you turn the timer and that is the only time it does defrost replace the timer.

Freezer cold. Refrigerator very warmer.

Hi there. This should be a self defrosting unit. Check the defrost clock. It's usually behind the grill at bottom front of frig. or near the compressor. There is probably a little window on the clock motor where you can see it turn. You can manually advance the clock to put the unit into defrost mode. Check the defrost heating element. This is the usual problem. It is under shrouds where all the frost builds up. If element good, check defrost thermostat connected to element mechanically and in series electrically.
Thanks
Paul

Water is collecting in the refridgerator

defrost drain under coils in freezer is blocked or frozen with ice down in defrost hole. defrost hole with hairdryer but be careful not to melt the plastic.

Drain in freezer plugs up

sometimes can be solved by loosely coiling a piece of solid copper wire around the defrost heating element and down into the drain a little. the radiant heat on the wire during defrost cycle may help keep the drain open

Zanussi fridge freezer - fridge not working

The defrost cycle is not happening like it should, that's what causes the block of ice (and poor air flow). If you have all that defrosted look at the defrost bi-metal, it usually is a small round disk with a couple wires coming out of it and it's clipped on the coils. When it's cold enough, it passes electricity to the heat elements, when it gets hot enough it "opens" and kills power to the heat elements. If that is bad (swollen cracked or bloated) and not passing electricity to the elements that's the problem. Another item would be the defrost timer itself, if it doesn't work (no clock motor turning) then it will never go into defrost. And the last and usually least expected failure would be the heat element themselves not working
