Question about Philips 42FD9954 42 in. Plasma HDTV

1 Answer

I have a Philips Plasma model 37PF9431D/37 that doesn't power up. Green LED comes on, turns off, and then the red LED blinks once, pauses, then blinks twice quickly and then repeats the pattern. I'm guessing capacitors on the power supply board, but wanted to see if anyone knew if the red LED pattern provided a specific indicator.

How do I find out what type of replacement capacitors to use? Is it printed on the power board PCB or do I need to remove the damaged capacitors in order to bring them to an electronics store to get replacements? And would these replacement capacitors be found at Radio Shack or Fry's Electronics?

Hello,

Your power supply board is not yet dead, u know basic electronics' and soldering? Most of the times, the power supply board just have dead leakages gases capacitors. These capacitors always bulges up on it top,or puff up on it top.Replaced these gases leakages capacitors will get your TV power stable, and work again.Or tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

Hope this help

Same problem

More then likely, the problem is the power supply, not sure if this one is internal or external. The manufacturers of these lcds are using cheap taiwan capacitors that fail as little as a year of use. These capacitors probably need to be refurbished. I have done a few LCD power supplies here at our repair shop.

finally got some help from customer service ----
the code flashing one then two red lights is for an upgrade of the software ---- you can go to their website and download a current fix to that problem onto a thumb drive----
\the power problem is caused by a bad power board--- you can replace them for any where from 130-330.00
dont need a service tech - take off cover and easy to replace---can find part on parts store.com for philips televisions --- used is about 130 and new about 330 -- used is a refurbished unit and works just as good as the new one

Philips 37PF9431D/37 No Picture

While I can't tell you what this particular code means I know from experience that power boards fail frequently commonly on those TVs. Do you hear a clicking of the power supply first on and then off after a few seconds?

There's a guy or a company on eBay that offers trade-in for faulty power supplys, you should check them out:
http://stores.shop.ebay.com/TechFetch

Search for 37'' Philips in the title or contact them to ask about it. Used to be $99 flat including return shipping.
