The rapid-blinking blue light means that the Zen's battery is too drained to allow the player to turn on.
It can take 24 hours or more to completely recharge the Zen using USB. If you see the blue light blinking slowly when you plug it in, then the player is charging, and you will have to wait for it to finish charging.
If, after leaving the Zen to charge for more than a day, it still does not turn on, then the battery may be defective and not able to be charged anymore. The battery will have to be replaced.
Does it turn on at all? If it doesn't than the battery needs replacing. If it does turn on and it just doesn't play, than it either has a virus or there is an error in firmware and will have to be replaced or sent in for firmware upgrade.
The battery is bad or the charging circuit is flaking out. Try plugging it in and from the wall side of the charger, unplug and plug it in several times. Sometimes on the Zen players that will shock it back into charging. I have seen that same charging issue on several models of Creative players.
The first problem is probably a software incompatibility between Creative's software and Windows Media Player version 11. The second problem is possibly a need to replace the battery. 3rd party batteries are about 20 dollars now.
there seems to be a problem with the batteries for the Zen. I have just sent mine in for warranty work as it will work if you have it plugged into an AC adapter but it won't work as soon as it's unplugged even after charging all night. The USB will not charge it either. Creative has sent a replacement unit, but there is a serious problem with the battery.
