Question about HP Officejet Pro L7480 All-in-One Multifunction Inkjet

1 Answer

Hello, i have a HP Officejet Pro L7480 which did not cause trouble for 3 years, but now: PROBLEM WITH PAPER FEEDING - when trying to print something, the printer normally "tries" to grasp a paper 2 times and tells "no paper insde/put paper inside" if it failed the 2nd time - more and more the printer started to miss feeding the paper, so I always had to push "OK" for having put new papers inside, which i did not, because ther is already enough... but then it printed at least (so to say feeding the 3rd and 4th time, because firstly there was a little advance towards moving the paper ...) - meanwhile it is almost impossible to print; mostly, when the printer tries twice, the first time there is no feeding progress, the 2nd time there is a little and no matter how often i repeat the "OK" it wont print at all (respectively 1 out of 20) - i cleanded the rollers with alcohol but then i saw that the papers dont even make it to the line of rollers on the back there is one single bigger roller which moves down on the papers where they are being put, i cleanded this one, too; it is not defect, but... - maybe its "weakened" somehow? - or doesnt work proberly feeding the first time? Also i saw that the rollers on top, which move the already printed pages at last, are being cut, probably to provide better grip? I did not see that alle the other ones on lower height are cut similar way, is there some damage? Hoping for Help :-) Justus.

Hi

If it attempts to feed and expecially when you hear a cricking sound. It means that the paper guide it too tighten that it holds the paper. Try to loose up the paper tray guide. Are you using a paper tray. If not, put small paper or change the correct setting of the paper size setting to auto detect if any.

The try to print again.

    Hey benjz,

thanks for the really quick answer first.

I dont know if i understand you exactly, i am not really an computer expert and i dont know exactly about specific vocabs ...

By a "paper guide which is to tighten" respectively "loosing it" do you mean the two artefacts on left and bottom side of the paper guide, which are used to put the "frontier" of the paper size? (i have a paper guide, which is on the bottom of the printer in horizontal direction to the ground, like on the picture in the left upper corner)

If yes, I tried this, i even put those two regulation artefacts to maximum extend, so they dont have any contact to A4size paper (normal size) anymore - still paper feeding does not function properly.

The only other thing, which might be to tighten could be the roller which moves down on the horizontal paper, or not? I dont know how to loosen this one, if its an possible option ...

Thanks in advance for further suggestions,

    greets,

    Justus

Yes, you have to loosen it. But try to use the other tray and it is located above the paper tray. if not printing the lower paper try.

  • Benjamin Jr Singson Mar 31, 2011

Sorry but you don't aswer my question if the printer roller is moving and it attempts to pick up a paper into the paper tray. try to put 10 pcs paper. Check also in printing properties the correct paper size like A4 as you mention. because may the sension detecting incorrect paper size.

  • justus_saeng Mar 31, 2011

hey, i have looked - by flashlight - at the roller which comes down for the paper feeding and its not spinning, how can i loosen it? The paper size of the printer is set to A4 and i also tried only a few papers around 10 without success.

  • Benjamin Jr Singson Mar 31, 2011

If the roller is not spinning, it is probable not a feeder roller issue. Can go to printer icon and check if there are pending printing jobs and delete them all.

    Also follow this procedure.

    Go to START MENU
Choose Commamd prompt, right click mouse and run as administrator (You should be in this command C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32- If not type this command when you in the dos command prompt "CHDIR C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEMS32 and press enter")
    Type the letter "cmd"
Type the word "net stop spooler"
    Exit
    Go to C: drive
    Choose to Windows Folder
    Click show content
    Choose system32 folder
    Choose spool folder
    Choose printer
And delete all printing jobs pending
Again go back to CMD window and type the word "net start spooler"
Restart your computer and must also turn off your printer and then switch it on.

If still not working, try to set up once again the printer and print the test page.

thanks again, but i am quite sure that it must be a feeding issue ... since the HP is also a copier i tried everything by coping (not printing from pc, therefore it cannot be a software problem ... so the hardware of the HP always stars scanning the page and than the paper feeding starts (roller moves down and sometimes it spinns a bit ... and 1 out of 20 times it spinns enough to make it to the printing process ... )

  • Benjamin Jr Singson Apr 01, 2011

Scanning is different because you use only the photo bulb light when copying. We need to consider some causes aside from feeder sensor issue. Try follow some solution I suggest and I will give more until we find out what causes your printer not printing.

  • justus_saeng Apr 03, 2011

i did everything (cmd, reinstall, etc. ... ) it really does not matter if I copy or print from PC (I also can do testpages directly from HP..)

it is always the same .. papers are being feeded not enough or not at all ... i just did and test page (from printer, after reinstallatino and without any pending printing jobs) ... it told me three times theere is no paper ... i always said "ok""ok""ok" and every turn the paper moved/feeded a bit further till it printed ...

check the paper tray, make sure the paper guides are snug up to the edges of the paper. Even a small gap will cause miss alignment of the printing.

the problem in your printer could be the plastic gear attach to the end of the rubber roller that grabs the paper. Look closely and see which gear's teeth is broken or already worn out. This cause the delay in the timing of the rotation of the roller.
Check also the mechanical timing of the roller. if you can unlatch the tension spring / lock to make the rubber roller moves freely, do it....position the rubber that grabs the paper, try 90 or 180 degrees from its previous location.
Hope this helps!

Hp Officejet L7480 false paper jam message. Resetting the printer has no effect.

Hp paper jam error message is displayed by the printer when paper is jammed in one or more locations. In such a case, users are recommended to remove the jammed paper from the specified location. The entire paper path must be checked for any pieces of paper. To stop the message, open and close the top most cover of the printer. Lastly, verify the flags and the sensors. If the problem persists, the cause of the error message could be a broken sensor or sensor lever.

Try doing running it through it's aligment process.

It is also possible that the contacts where the ink cartridges mate up with the printer are corroded. Try using an eraser to clean the corrosion off the mating surface in the printer.

I am trying to print envelopes using HP Officejet Pro 8000. I don't see an envelope guide and the envelopes are skewing when feeding. Is there an easy solution here?

If the tray is similar to a Officejet PRO 8000 that I have,REMOVE the stack of paper, bring the adjustable guide walls towards the center, and you should be able to print envelopes.
