First, check the ON\OFF switch connecting your headphone to the computer. Most of the new headphones have them. Then go into Control Panel and make sure you have the correct speaker/headphone combination selected under Sounds. If you are using Windows 7, there is a diagnostic available onscreen. If using Windows XP or Vista, there is a good diagnostic tool on the Internet under Microsoft Windows downloads. I have used it and it works well. Last, but certainly not least, are the headphones connected correctly to your computer? Usually the headphone plugs' color matches one on your computer sound input area.

First check if your head phone or external speakers are working fine and if it they are, then plug in to the notebook and follow the procedures:

-go to control panel
-View by: large icon
-Click on sound
-from here you can enable your head phone or speakers if they are disable
or even test it if they are working.........

let me know if it didn't work..
Cheers

SOURCE: headphone jack not working

Hi,

I find that there is a problem with your headphone speaker.
Try with some other headphone, even if it is not working, then you need to take it to the service center.

Cheers,
Mr.Maduraikaran.

How to fix my acer aspire 5740G model lap top sound distortion, When it with Speaker connection its clear, Without speaker its more distorted, any one can give solution?

This is due to the internal speakers which might need replacing, it sounds better with external speakers because they are plugged into the headphone socket which shows the internal speakers are damaged, get them checked out.

Internal speakers are disabeled. Extearnal speakers work just fine

Headphone jack may be faulty as there is a contact that tells the uProcessor that the socket is in use and turns the internal speakers off. If the contacts are tarnished, they might not be opperating correcty.

Built in speakers not working

Are you using external speakers? or internal?

EXTERNAL SPEAKERS: If your are plugging speakers into your headphone jack and they dont play, but you plug headphones into the same port and they work fine.. then it is the external speakers.

INTERNAL SPEAKERS: But if you are using the speakers in the laptop, then your speakers are probably bad. Try some software settings, but probly just bad speakers. Could also be that the speaker cord inside the laptop came unplugged from the motherboard. In which case you would have to take the laptop apart and plug it back into the motherboard.

Good Luck.

No sound come through external headset or desktop speaker

Sometimes the headphone jack has its own volume control separate from the internal speakers. Check the levels in the volume mixer.

Sound problem - Acer Aspire 5920

I assume you are using Windows Vista as ships with Aspire 5920's. Try the following to make sure that Windows is using the correct output options:
  1. Click on the Start Menu and go to Control Panel
  2. From Control Panel click on Hardware and Sound
  3. Click on the heading Sound and the sound configuration box will appear.
  4. The first tab is called Playback and allows you to select a playback device.  You should find your external speakers and internal speakers listed.
  5. Click the external speakers and then click on the "set default" button to make sure that the sound is played back through those instead of your internals.

Speaker Problem

Nothing is wrong. Most computers automatically turn off the internal seakers after the external seakers are connected. Go to cntrol pannel and see what you can do under audio options or some such equivelent. Check back with more problems,
hope this helped/helps.
