They make special "wormdrive" oil that is similar to gear lube but i has an additive for foaming. You should be able to go to any repair shop and buy a small bottle of the wormdrive oil. I would not recommend using anything else or you might damage the gears. Let me know if you need help finding the oil and if so give me your general location in the US and I will try and help you further.

How do I replace the spring on the retractable blade guard on a model 77 worm drive skilsaw?

Bearings maybe......I'd also check the armature fan and see if it came loose. Either way it doesn't sound cheap!

What kind of oil do i put in my skill saw 77

This saw requires Skil's heavy-duty, worm-drive oil, part number 80111. If you can find a local vendor that has some great otherwise, type 'skil 8011' in your search engine and shop around for an 8oz tube, they can run from $5 to $10 plus shipping.

I need to know what kind of oil do I use to change the oil in my skill saw 77? Mine is pretty dirty, runs great but thought I should change the oil. Thanks Bill

Use Skil worm drive oil #80111 ($5-$6.00) at Home depot, or Bosch WD7LUB 2.3 FL. OZ. (I bought for $3.50 at Bosch service center.)

Need to know the type of oil that the skilsaw 7 1/4'' mag 77 use

skil recommends using their lube 80111 for an 8 oz tube or 80112 for a pint. however any good quality worm drive lube will work. Don't use a gear lube because the worm drive has additives for anti foaming and gear wear added. Let me know if you need more help

Describe your Skil 7 1/4" Magnesium

You have large plastic screw on the saw, remove it and fill the oil to bottom of threads and that should be it.

I need to know how much oil goes into a skilsaw worm drive resvr.

Haven't heard anything so I checked the Milwaukee worm drive saw and they recomment about 1/2 oz. Make sure you use an oil for a worm drive that is not foaming. Hope this helps. Also when checking oir level have the shoe set for max depth and on a flat surface remove the oil plug, when filling tip the saw on its side and fill, turn back over and allow excess oil to run out if overfilled.

Manual for Skil Saw model 77 type 17

I have a Skilsaw model 77 type 16. I have the original owners manual and would be willing to fax you a copy.
The manual only lists a part number for the gear oil, it is No. 249. This is for a 5-3/8 oz tube of gear oil. I checked with my local hardware store which services this saw and they called a factory rep. They told the hardware store with shipping and handling it would cost about $17 for the oil! However they also said that a 90 weight gear oil is close enough to solve the problem.
Hope this helps.
