Question about Home

I am trying to make my old bathtub look better. there is an ugly ring of rust around the tub drain handle there is a round stainless steel housing that screws on the front of the tub with a knob in the center to drain water. I want to cover that rust with a stainless steel washer put in behind the housing. Or other suggestion. Also the drain plug is ugly and woould like to replace just the plug. It is a kohler put in about 1960. can I replace just the plug? there is a flat screwdriver slot in the center of if I removed that cant figure out how to remove plug.

Normally if you can unscrew the screw from there than you should be able to pull out just the metal part and have it changed.

Resufacing an old bathtub

The answer to this depends on whether you intend to have the bath re-enamelled (vitreous enamel) or whether you intend to use one of the proprietary DIY roller paint "enamelling" systems.

If you plan to have vitreous enamel then any company doing it will not guarantee the outcome or the finish unless you have them do all of the preparation; typically they'll blast the tub back to completely bare steel/cast iron and chemically wash it afterwards. Without this there's a good chance that when the tub comes out of the kiln there will be pinholes (a.k.a. birdseyes) in the finish. If this happens after they've done the prep they'll re-blast it and start again if need be, but not if it's your fault.

But if you plan to use the DIY system then all you need is a smooth and clean base so you can hire a blaster and do the job in your own workshop. Fill any pitting left by rust before repainting the bath, lead or two part epoxy car body filler do the job just fine. DIY kits don't give a great finish but they do look far better than a tired bath with chipped/cracked vitreous enamel if you can't afford to get the job done properly.

Jacuzzi whirlpool hot tub, flashes Fl-1 has new filters,

Sounds like a bad heating element. This is located in a stainless steel tube under or around the main control box behind the cover around the tub. It is not hard to replace but should be done by a pro. The part is avaliable online.

If residue is a brown color it can be minerals in the water. You can buy a stainless steel cleaner, just put it in the machine and run it thru a cycle.
Use only good brand name detergent - no tablets- use rinse aid- check arms for blockages-stack dishes with soiled side facing the centre-
LG are an excellent dishwasher

Stainless steel is rusty/blotchy

Jenn Air makes great products, don't blame them. Your type of stainless steel is a consumer grade that has less nickel-chromium in the mix making it affordable to the consumer. The surface needs to be "pacified", DeBruce Polish will REMOVE THE RUST and PACIFY the surface. We get Debruce Polish at debrucepolish.com.
