Question about Honeywell (formerly Hand Held ProductsHHP) 4800 Document Reader USB Kit Imager Integrated Stand Handheld Barcode Scanner

Open Question

I have Windows 7 x64. I have a Honeywell 4800p USB barcode scanner. I downloaded and installed the driver which created a com5 serial interface to the USB. The device appears in device manager. I downloaded and installed the EzConfig program. When I run the program it displays a dialog window which states that it cannot connect to the device. Can you give me step by step instructions on getting the scanner connected to my computer and working?

Most barcode scanners will not use a standard mini-din to USB adapter. You need to replace the cable with a USB cable designed for that bar scanner. Here is a Google shopping result for the cable you need. Good luck!

Basically you don't need any driver for USB interface, but will take longer time to auto install the driver on certain version of Windows 7.

Hello Is there any driver for use this scanner with usb port?. Thanks.

Please go the Honeywell site listed below (as they are the parent company of Metrologic).

The link should take you directly to the software downloads pages for the Metrologic MS3580. The software you are looking for is Honeywell Scanning and Mobility USB Serial Driver...it is 4mb in size.

Please follow directions carefully during installation as these scanners are a little finicky on driver installation.

Please click HERE for the link to the website and then click "software" to be taken to the drivers page.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

It seems that this only has drivers for Windows XP, but you can try installing the XP drivers on windows 7.

Here is the link to download the drivers, make sure the scanner is not plugged in until after the drivers are installed. This may not work, but i have had to do this with other hardware and sometimes it does work.

It's a USB scanner. Maybe you accidentally scanned some rogue barcode that changed the default symbology to something that you can't use in Meditech. I would start troubleshooting basically with this. On the PC where it no longer reads into your Meditech software, try to remove and re-insert the USB cable on both ends - scanner and USB port. Next, ensure that the scanner's driver is set to use this HID (human interface device) as a keyboard emulation device. Next, get (or download and print) the manual for the device, because it has barcodes for changing scanning settings, symbologies, etc. Scan the barcode that says "Reset to default settings", then try scanning again. At this point, if you still cannot get a reading in the Meditech software, try to specify the correct symbology for your medication barcodes. If you still have issues, try a different USB port on the same PC. If still issues, try a different PC. If it works on Meditech on another PC, perhaps you need to update your Meditech version on the bad PC to match the version that works. If all else fails, exchange it for another one; perhaps it truly is defective. I hope you can get up and scanning again!

Edit: I just realized this scanner has more cables than just USB. Are you using a wedge? If so, what kind (PS/2, RS232 (serial) interface, etc.)? There is different troubleshooting for PS/2 and RS232.

Fail to configure metrologic usb barcode scanner to use virtual RS232 port interface

First check the com port speed of computer port which you connected scanner .Com port speed should be 9600.
To change com port speed in computer go to computer/properties/device manager.
Select the ports eg com1 .Right click communication port go to properties and select port settings Bits per second should be 9600.
Serial scanner can not be test in word or note pad.you can download the RS232 software from below link and test the scanner
