Ok well one, reason for this is because when those two phones are ON the "Line" somehow they are "Presenting" a resistance to the "exchange" (PABX) of about 1000 OHMS, this then is "Seen" by the PABX exchange as a "Holding" signal, and subsequently "Holds Up the line in the current state, or, OFF Hook". so one isn't able to :break tone" as we say. These phones, are really stand alone units, .
I suspect that it is the "Piggy backing" that maybe your issue here. "We have 2 boxes piggybacked with 8 phones" (sic) Can you split them into smaller groups? say only in pairs?
Also make sure that none of the Jacks have capacitors in more than ONE, the First, or main jack. (Some have None)

How to Change COS (Class of Service) Password

If you set the all line and set restrictions to no restrictions, you are not restricted from making any calls. I don't think it's the phone system requiring this 4 digit code. Are you sure all your lines are set with the same long distance provider. Did the lines in the dial 8 group require a code. (ie some users had the long distance provider set up their lines to need a code entered to charge calls off to different job codes, so they can distribute the charges correctly).
You should now be able to call 9+1+area code+number, with no restrictions.

Can I block calls from coming in

1
Contact your house phone service provider and request Call Screen or Call Blocker. Ask the representative for the activation date for the feature.

  • 2 Pick up your house phone on the activation date and listen for the dial tone. Dial "*60" on the phone's keypad. Rotary phone users should dial "1160" instead.
  • 3 Enter the number to block when prompted by the system. Re-enter the number to confirm that you want to add the number to your blocked callers list. Hang up the phone.

The caller ID does not show the correct day and time. The day and time is correct in the phone setup program

When I first switched to Packet 8 (now 8x8) I found out that my automatic time set would suddenly shift to 3 hours difference. The problem became difficult to find, because it was only one of 3 lines on my phone system. I came to find out that it was because the first call on my system after 2AM set the system time, and if it wasn't on the 8x8 line, it didn't change the time.

A quick call to 8x8 and they gave me the password to log into the 8x8 box to set the time zone to Eastern time.

Check with your dial tone provider or their web site and see if you can do the same with your unit.

    No dial tone

Have you tried a known good phone in the jack, if that doesn't work take the phone to the demarc box provided by your phone company and open the door on the box. Under this door locate the mini jack and disconnect it, then plug your known good phone into that jack. If you get no dial tone at this point, then it isn't being provided by the local phone company so it's their trouble. Thank you. Jerry
