Maybe its a problem with the connector, try to use an external usb drive to see if the problem persists.

External CD/DVD units work fine. Must be a connector problem, Thanks. :-)

Optical drive not working

Hi there.

To resolve this, all you should need to do, is download and install the chipset and/or cd/dvd drivers for your laptop.

You can get them from here:
http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/ddaStep.asp?platform=10022&st=browse

Just select your model and operating system, download and install.

Hope that helps.

Get windows vista home premium

You can run a 32 bit technology OS on a 64 bit technology platform.

It will run pretty fast.

You just can't run a 64 bit technology OS on a 32 bit technology platform, though the 64 bit OS is recommended on a 64 bit platform.

Love your brother, he did you no wrong.

HP CD/DVD optical drive is not recognized

I found that there was a firmware conflict caused by the installation of iTUNES. I uninstalled and cleared the upper and lower filters in the registry and the internal DVD-Rom is recognized. First I cleared the registry and the drive was recognized after a hard boot. So Far no twitches. Knock on wood.

My problem is that my system does'nt show any dvd drive in Lap

I had the same problem, it occurred right after windows installed sp2 and my laptop showed no dvd player with any program, I restored my laptop to the previous day before the update and it worked fine again, after that I just let windows update by itself and it has been a week and everything is fine, also in device manager open the dvd + sign and right click your dvd and click update drivers, if that does not work, right click your dvd, and then click delete, and then reboot your computer, laptop whatever and the computer will automatically recognize the player on startup and it will install again and hopefully that will get your drivers updated, do not worry about deleting the dvd player, it will reinstall all by itself, just have to reboot..thanks
