I have many years of experince repairing Canon scanners so here is my suggestion.

First off I would go back to USB its faster then a parallel cable for scanning purposes. Second if your computer is a very old one then just get a usb card and install it in to your computer. Also make sure you have the latest drivers for the operating system your running. The drivers are free on Canons website. Just google Canon Canoscan N640P drivers it should take you directly to Canon's website also I would download capture perfect its free also an will function perfectly with your scanner.

When you install the newest drivers make sure your scanner is disconnected from your computer. Once the drivers are installed then attach the USB cable to your computer. You should get a message saying new drivers are being installed then reboot your computer and you should be good to go with whatever you want to scan.

I hope this helps you out.

If I do the scan, the scanner is warming up for about 10 minutes. after that it said internal error occured. Scanner driver will be closed. Code : 3,202,19

try to uninstall the driver then install it again
note:
1-after you uninstall make restart for computer.
2-don`t connect the scanner USB until the driver installer required this.

How to connect to the computer?

Devices: Canon CanoScan FB330P/FB630P Color Flatbed Scanners

Check pages 22-23 of this copy of your Canon Canoscan 630P Product Guide.

You'll need an "IBM-type" parallel printer cable - with a DB25 on each end, and your computer will also need to have an "IBM-type" DB-25 parallel printer port.

What the Canon Product Guide fails to mention is that this "IBM-type" printer cable is a kluged Centronics parallel printer cable, but became so popular (on older computers - your laptop may not have this port), that it got an IEEE standard: IEEE 1284 (with DB25 connectors on both ends).

You'll need a DB25-to-DB25 M/F cable, meaning DB25 connectors on both ends, with a Male on one end, and a Female on the other end.
The Male DB25 will plug into the Female DB25 connector on your computer/laptop, with the Female DB25 going to the FB630P Color scanner..
Here are some pictures/pricing:
http://www.computercablestore.com/IEEE_1284_Printer_DB25_to_DB25_catID2134.aspx

The nice thing about the design of the Canon FB630P Color Scanner is that the scanner also has a Female DB25 Printer port for an existing parallel printer, so when you connect an FB330P/FB630P to your system, your existing parallel printer is daisy-chained through this port - so you needn't give up you printer (to scan), nor must you install another parallel printer port onto your PCI-bus tower PC to keep your printer.

Most modern printers are USB-attached to laptop systems, so you may need an adapter, an example of which is seen here:

No parallel port on my computer. USB -parallel

This scanner is an old one so it has only parallel port. You can connect it to any USB with the converter you mentioned and should be working. Did you connect the power supply at the scanner too? It is nesessary for the scanner in order to take power.

Hi my HP scan jet 3400c cannot turn on. what is a problem.

The scanner have two ports to connect to PC, USB and Parallel.

It has no Power switch.

Disconnect all cables from your scanner (USB/Parallel and power.

Plug power cable to the scanner, and then plug the power supply to an outlet.

Does it turn on ?

If not, than check the power adaptor.

If it turns on, then turn off your computer, plug the USB/Paralel connector to the scanner and to your PC and turn on your PC.

You should know that you can use only one connection for your scanner at a time, USB OR Parallel.
Parallel for under Windows98, and USB for Win98 and above.

Regards.

Trouble shooting

The "car sound" could be an indication that the scanner is locked. Check the lock switch on the bottom of the scanner. Move the switch back and forth a few times and then leave it in the locked position. Another possibility is that you are scanning heavy items such as books. If too much weight is placed on the scanner glass, then pressure could be enough to prevent the scanning element from moving as it should.

The code 201 sometimes can indicate a power issue...meaning the scanner is not getting enough power. Try connecting the usb cable to a different port on the computer (preferrably directly to the computer and not through a USB hub).

Initialization failed - Unable to acquire TWAIN-compliant device

Hello,

I have seen your message stating that "Initialization failed - Unable to acquire TWAIN-compliant device" error is received when trying to connect USB-Parallel type to your Laptop.

Well,  Printer  Panasonic UF4100, recommends to use only " Printer/Scanner Interface as Bi-directional Parallel (IEEE1284) " means you need to use Parallel cable to connect Printer to the Computer/Notebook.  You may receive some communication error messages if you are using a  "PORT REPLICATOR CABLE"( USB TO PARALLEL connector).  The error message that you have received is related to the communication error. Futher, if you use same USB- Parallel cable for long time the Printer Hardware functionality might go bad, since Printer memory gets confused and will not read or detect the Cable , since it is not a cable to use  mentioned by Panasonic Manufacturer.

Let me tell you, general functionality of Printer like Printing would work even if you use USB-Parallel cable. But it is not a case with Scanner and Fax functionality.

Hence, I recommend you to use only Parallel cable to connect your Printer to the Laptops.

I hope that this will resolve the issue for you.

You can email me at thumuvikram@rediffmail.com if you need further assistance.

Bye.

Scanning error - cannot scan error code 2,155,0 ???

Hi
I had the same problem, at first I thought that it was the original drivers (the ones I got with the printer) so I donwloaded the drivers from the canon website, this did not resolve the problem. What I also tried and it worked for me was connecting the printer to the computer with it's original usb cable. I bought a couple of weekes ago a usb extension cable (about 5 m long). With this extension cable I can print but I can't scan any document, it just gives me the same error. Hope this works also for you.
Bye
PS: My printer is a Canon Pixma MP190

ScanCraft CS-P always says there isn't a scanner connected or that there might be something in the parallel port

Evening MCRmyFranKIE, A parallel port is commonly known as a printer port or LPT1 port. Before USB ports existed scanners frequently used them to connect to computers. The connector on the PC is typically *D* shaped and contains two rows of 25 pins, about 1 ¾ inches wide. Questions for you: -Are you using that kind of cable or a USB cable? -Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software following the instructions yet? Once you give us some more information we can continue.
