Look for firmware at the manufacturer's website. Did you check in 'hardware' for problems? You can try reinstalling the driver there.
Right click on 'my computer' > properties > hardware > device manager > double click on your cdrom. Many third-party programs that control CD or DVD burning (as well as some player applications) install CD- or DVD-ROM filter device drivers into Windows. These filter drivers are meant to allow for low-level hooks into the hardware, to allow for functions such as packet writing (where a CD-R/W or DVD-/+RW can be written incrementally, like a hard disk).

These filter drivers sometimes have problems that can cause the CD or DVD drive to stop working correctly. The device entry for the CD or DVD drive in the Device Manager may show up with an error descriptor that reads "The device could not start." Additionally, there may be an error message that reads "One of the filter drivers for this device is invalid." The devices themselves do not show up in Explorer. Error codes for the device include code 31, code 32, code 19 or code 39, and sometimes the even more ominous warning "Your registry might be corrupted" appears.

Fixing the problem simply involves deleting the filter entries for the third-party device drivers. These entries can sometimes become damaged (which is what produces the "corrupt registry" warning).

To delete the offending keys, open the Registry and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlCl ***\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. . Delete the keys named UpperFilters and LowerFilters and reboot.

Several of the products made by Roxio are infamous for causing this problem, although in fairness to the company the most recent versions of their Roxio CD/DVD writing software (6.2 and higher) do not have these problems. Users of 5.0 or 6.0 editions of the Easy CD & DVD Creator product, which has been bundled with many new PCs in the past, should upgrade to 6.2 or better. Other programs can also cause this problem, with the same solution.

Note that after you do this, you may lose functionality in the program that uses the filter drivers, which may need to be reinstalled.Go to device manager:

When in device manager, look for:

IDE ATA ATA/ATAPI controllers

click on plus sign to expand the tree

right click on the IDE controller that is handling the CD/DVD drive in question

select uninstall

reboot your computer

Hp 9910dv doesn't recognise dvd/cd drive What

This issue could be due to corrupt or missing CD/DVD drive drivers or corrupt registry keys. To resolve this issue, perform the following:

Remove and reseat the CD/DVD Drive of the notebook by referring the service manual provided below:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01951704.pdf

Refer page no: 59 & 60.
NOTE: PDF manuals require the Adobe Acrobat Reader for viewing and printing.
If issue persists, Run Microsoft Fix it to remove drive limits. You can find Microsoft Fix it in the web link below:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00678214&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3740565&lang=en

Further, reinstall CD/DVD drivers from Device Manager by following the steps listed below:

1. Click Start, Control Panel, Device Manager.
2. This opens Device Manager window.
3. Click "+" beside CD/DVD Device Category.
4. Right-click the listed CD/DVD/RW and select Uninstall.
5. Follow onscreen instructions to complete the uninstallation.
6. Now restart the system.

Windows will redetect the device on restart and reinstalls the drivers automatically. Now check for the issue.

Check in device manager. To do this. 1st right click my computer, 2nd Click properties, 3rd click hardware, 4th click Device manager, 5th check that the computer is seeing the DVD/CD-ROM drives by double clicking the DVD/CD-ROM drives words or click the + symbol next to DVD/CD-ROM drives, the drop down menu will list your device if it’s there. If a device is listed double click the device. If it says it’s working properly click driver in the top bar and uninstall, then re-boot, the system will re-load the driver on re-booting. If the driver was corrupt it will re-install it correctly.
If the system cannot find the driver on re-booting it's missing from the systems file, go to the Support Fujitsu site and download and install the driver. Its free all you have to do is put the laptop details in the appropriate boxes and all the drivers for that laptop will be listed.
From your description of the error message it’s no doubt a corrupt or missing driver.
Hope this helps.
