Question about Sport & Outdoor - Others

Open Question

How do you change the blades on a Woods Brush Bull 600 rotary cutter? I followed the operators manual and have removed the bolt & flat retention clip, but nothing will dislodge the pin from it's seat. Penetrating oil, hammer blows & (modest) heat w/ oxy-acetelyne torch has be all been ineffective. No damage to pin or equipment, yet - don't want to be too agressive (I'm a competent mechanic). I've thought of pulling the "stump jumper" from the gearbox shaft & using a press on teh pins, but this is a lot of extra work for a set of "easy change" blades. Thanks for any help.

SOURCE: How do I remove the pin on my Rainbow Vacuum Model SE clips?

When I used to repair Rainbow SE vacuums for a living, I had a long nail of small diameter that I had filed the end off of just for this purpose. The pin you need to remove is grooved on each end to "catch" in the plastic housing, but a slight tap with a hammer, using this "nail" will do the trick. When you're ready to re-attach it, just tap it again to put it back in place.

SOURCE: Where are the pins on

The "pins" are the 48 little tabs that are around the clock dial. That would be 2 in every hour of the 24 hour day.
Push down a pin to start the device that you want to control and pull up the pin at the time you want the device to stop.

How change blades in a makita 1912B

Power OFF. Unplug from the wall! If you screw up, it'll eat the fingers right off your hand!

Each cutter should have two bolts. Rotate the cutterhead with your fingertips until you can see them. Loosen and remove them. Remove the cutter. Replace, replace the bolts, and torque them tight. Never EVER leave the tool lying with a bolt loose! If someone mistakenly plugs it in and turns it on the cutter will fly across the room like wartime shrapnel.

Is the gear box on an old Woods Bush Hog packed in grease or a heavy weight gear oil and what type is best. How do you prevent leaking

90 weight only. Fill through top until level with side opening. If it is leaking, it has likely blown it's seals. If leak is slow, just keep checking and filling it. If it's just flowing out, it's best to replace the box. No too fun. I've had to do it twice in about 15 years. Hope this helps a little:)

I just read the owners manual online at and I don't see the reference to the feed rollers and pressure.. I would look at the condition of the planer blades to ensure they are sharp and not pitted. Then I would look at the feed rollers for being out of round. Let me know, it has been a couple years since I worked on one of them.

Thihl HL75 hedge trimmer engine will not run at full speed

Remove the cutting attachment, insert a screwdriver in to the shaft receptor and it should operate smooth with a slight bit of friction. if not then check the blade bolts and make sure the blades move freely. Lubricate the blades and the gearbox regularly. If the attachment end is good then turn the driveshaft by hand (with attachment still off shaft). If this too moves freely then go to the clutch.
