Your computer has to have a PCMCIA (An acronym meaning Personal Computer Memory Card Industry Association. Many laptop computers use these devices as modems) Slot.

unable to figure out how - ff5c3b5.jpg Desktops do not have slots for these, and MANY new laptops do not have a slot for these.

If your laptop/notebook has this slot, you would push it in, and use the CD install disk.

If you do not have a CD install disk, you can download the drivers (instructions, and manual) here: http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&cid=1144763513196

Won't install on computer

Make sure driver software is installed before ever connecting the wireless adapter. You may need to do a complete uninstall and start over. Or, your PC is not compatible with the adapter. More info would be needed.

Try resetting your IP address:
The laptop may be trying to use the IP address from the old router.

1) Click Start (assuming Windows 2000, XP, or Vista)
2) Click Run
3) Type in CMD
This will take you to a black command box
4) Type in: ipconfig/release
The chart should show your IP address as 0.0.0.0
Once this has happened, proceed to step 5
5) Type in: ipconfig/renew
You should now see a new IP address listed.

Also note that you need to set up your network key (assuming that you are using one) on both the router and laptop.
Make sure that your router is set up to perform as DHCP server.

Marcia...............Is this a small home system here. Was this an onsite tech. ISP is Internet Service Provider and not so sure that is the issue. WOW this can get confusing. Perhaps this tech can redo his work for sake of your time. An adapter does allow the ISP to see how many PCs you are using.
Sorry Marcia .................Really would be nice if Mr. Tech could reassist you on this.

I installed linksys wireless notebook adapter driver on my laptop it sayes wsastartup not installed

If the laptop is XP please do this:
Go to Control Panel>add/remove programs. Look for the Linksys Wireless Notebook adapter, select it, click remove. Keep the notebook adapter connected to your laptop.
Insert the driver disc, do not run the set up.
Restart the laptop, drivers should be loaded automatically.
If drivers were not loaded, go to DEVICE MANAGER, click on NETWORK ADAPTERS, select the Linksys, right click the Linksys, click update drivers.
Start the wizard, select Install from a list of specific location.

You can do this if you have the setup disc or the downloaded drivers on your laptop.

If you are still having this problem you can call Linksys tech support 1800-3267114.
