Question about Memorex MVDT2002 20" TV

1 Answer

Our Memorex model #MVDT2002B, SH 067460905582A, was working fine. There was a short power outage in town during the work day. When we came home, the TV wouldn't power up. The cable box had reset just fine. We upluged and plugged back in, but nothing happened. We plugged a different, older TV into the same power source and that worked fine. Is there a reset button? We can't seem to find one. Also, we can't find our manual. Thank you, Janet and Brian

Hi, we got the back off the TV and the fuse looks ok. Brian took it out and put it back in and tried to turn the power on. It buzzed like bzzzzzt, then made a ticking sound like tick, tick, tick, tick. Do we need to replace the fuse? Can we get this fuse at a Radio Shack? Please advise. Thank you for your assistance.

I think we'd better take the TV to a repair shop. Thank you for your assistance.

The solution warned us that it could be dangerous to continue. We appreciate the warning and will take the tv to a repair shop.

There is a protection fuse inside your tV, which can be located at the power regulator section, to which the main power cable enters to the board. It is a class cartridge type, and can be replaced. Check it first. If found blown off, replace it with an other with same rating; which will be marked on its end metal caps. Never use an other rated one in place. Switch on your TV, while its back cover opened, and watch if the newely inserted fuse also blo up. if blow up, certainly there will be some short circuit inside the circuit board, which occured during power surge. Check these and inform me if the fuse blows again. I'll assist you further. Let me know the result by Fixya. OK.

The power supply section of your TV is faulty. It has an STR reguated power regulation section. The STR has damaged. You must have some knoledge in electronics to repair this section. Almost 90% of components in that section are "LIVE" parts, and touching the accidently will be fatal. Whout its schematic diagram, and measuring instruments, a concept about soldering and desoldering; you cant set it right.
If you have these and wants to repair it by yourself, send your Email address to me, by Fixya. I'll send the schematic diagram of your tV;s internal circuit, so that you can see what exactly the components and about its connections. OK.

Good determination . It is dangerous to handle a device like TV without any experience. It may lead to more and more problems to occur if we try to repair it, if we are not aware of its working principles, and knoledge to readout its schmatic diagram. Wish you Good Luck.

Westinghouse ice maker quit working

Is it your ice maker, or possible the blades that crush the ice or dispense the cubes? What can happen in the latter case is that during the storm the ice melted and pooled in the cutter mechanism. Then, when power was restored, the blades were frozen solid. To fix, investigate taking out the cutter mechanism and letting it thaw and drain. Then reinstall and use frequently for the first few days to prevent refereezimg.

Make sure the mains voltage is correct . if its too low the compressor will overload when trying to restart causing the overloader to kick out, but should only take a few mins to try and restart.

same thing happened to me with this machine -- actually, two power outages. I thought I was protected, as I run UPS and the machine should have hibernated (I know it did the first time). At any rate, after the first failure, the clock wouldn't run right, and after the second, the exact thing you describe happened.
I was within days of losing the warranty, and sent the box back. Cost $27 to ship, insured. They replaced motherboard and reformatted hard drive. It works fine now. 90-day warranty on the repair.
In short, your motherboard is toast.
