This sound like there is a refrigerant leak.Only some of the refrigerant has escaped but not all.
The leak needs to be repaired and the fridge regassed.
You will need a technician to do this

I have a Bev Air MT-27 cooler for home use. Is it possible to have it rewired so it functions more like a refrigerator so the fan doesn't run 24/7? And if that isn't possible, could I use a timer so that...

On commercial coolers, the fans are designed to run 24/7 to prevent the coils from freezing up. If the unit only runs 4 times a day, it will not maintain proper temps. Domestic units utilize the freezer compartment air to keep the refrigerator section at temp. Totally different set ups. I wouldn't do what you are suggesting with a commercial unit.

you have 2 choices #1 is replace the thermostat.#2 is check for air leaks around the door seals,if leaking air, compresor will run on overtime...trying to cool the air inside.

Freezer in the gararge redfrigerator quits working when outside temps get real cold

hello. this is a common problem. The thermostat for a refrigerator/freezer is in the refrigerator part. Normally the refrigerator is kept at around 40 degrees. The compressor turns on as required to maintain this tempearture. The evaporator coils are concentrated in the freezer side, so that the freezer stays at around 0 degrees while the fridge side is held at 40.

If the ambient temp is around 25 degrees, the refrigerator compartment will get below the setpoint of 40 degrees, and gradually continue down towards 25 degrees. The compressor will not have to run at all to maintain this. In fact, the compressor is designed not to run, once the refrigerator compartment gets below the setpoint, for fear of freezing the contents of the fridge.

The lack of circulating refrigerant due to the non-running compressor means that the freezer compartment will gradually warm up to 25 degrees.

If the unit were just a freezer, it would work fine in the unheated garage. If it were just a refrigerator, it would not run in these conditions, and the contents would eventually freeze, but it is otherwise OK.

Hi,
When it gets very cold the gas (freon) in the refrigeration system shrinks....because the properties that make cold also work against you in this case...when the gas shrinks in volume it then does not work properly anymore...the hot gas does not turn back into a liquid but stays as a gas and because of that it does not cool when going through the expansion device...ie. cap tube or expansion valve. If you were to keep it in the cold all the time you could add a bit of charge to make it work, but then if you move it to warm or the weather warms... now you are over charged... just one of those "no win" deals...
They don't make these things to run in extreme environmental changes..they like it a consistent temp. all the time...

The freezer will not freeze or keep its

Check to condenser coil and make sure it is clean and the fan near it is running when the compressor is on. Check for ice build up in the freezer. If the evaporator coil is iced up the box will run warm. It may be a defrost problem, a dirty condenser, or a refrigerant issue.

Both the refrigerator (upper)and freezer (bottom) dont stay as cold as they used to. Feezer doesnt maintain freezing temps

When the refrigerator cools but isn't as cool as it should be, I would suspect that the refrigerant coils underneath the unit are dirty.

A fan in the rear of the compartment underneath the refrigerator draws room air across these coils and removes heat from them. If the coils are dirty, the heat transfer is not efficient. This results in the coils remaining hotter than they should. This cuts down on the efficiency of the refrigerator.

Also check to make sure this fan runs whenever the compressor runs.

What temp should the fridge and freezer each be?

According to FDA safetey specs bacteria can grow at 40 to 140 F degrees .Refrigeration must be below this number but above 32F to keep from freezing. I maintain commercial refrigeration and they run at 34 to 38 F degrees. I have deep freeze set at -10F which keeps ice cream very solid but can go up to +2 F which renders softer ice cream...

Top mounted freezer on refrigerator not working

Move the refrigerator to a room that is at least 50 degrees F.

Temps on most refrigerators are regulated by the fresh foods temp. If your garage is let's say 35 degrees, the fresh foods temp will most likely never raise enough to turn the refrigerator on. With the refrigerator never running, the freezer compartment will warm to 35 degrees, resulting in everything melting. Even if garage is a bit warmer, say 45, the refrig will not run long enough for the freezer to maintain a low enough temperture. If the garage temp falls to below freezing, say 20 degrees, the food in the fresh foods compartment will freeze. (outdoor beverage dispensers have internal heaters to prevent product from freezing !) Please don't rate this if not a Fix-Ya for you, as anything else lowers my score.

Items sometimes freeze on refrigerator side of unit - model GSS25LGMA

It is most likely a bad damper motor.  This is where the cool air comes out into the fridge section.  On this model it is a fairly common problem and comes a whole assembly.  The part # is WR49X10091 and will cost anywhere from $100 to $122.  Knowing this model I would bet this is your problem.  If the damper is bad and stuck open cold air will just keep blowing in.  It is suppose to open and close based on the temp setting.  Let me know if you have any other questions.
