Is there a special type of monofilament thread to use?

I would suggest that you don't use this thread, it is too fine for the tension device on a domestic sewing machine, and they just don't like it. Too strong, too fine. Its best used in industrial blind hemming machines, if you look at RTW trouser hems you'll often see monofilament utilised here.

How do I sew Elastic waistband with Husqvarna Viking 910 Surger

I am assuming this is a simple stretch waist band with elastic about 2cm wide attached to a skirt or trousers. You need to measure your wist and cut elastic that length plus 2cm. Then join the two ends by overlapping them 2cm and zig zagging the elastic together with regular sewing machine. Now mark the elastic in quarters, ie hold it flat with the join in the middle and mark each edge with chalk or a fabric removable marker. Then put the marks together and mark the edges again so you have 4 marks equally spaced. Now do this for your garment too. It may be bigger in back so mark front and back, then half this to find the side quarters. Put elastic on inside of garment against raw edge and pin the quarter marks on elastic and garment together. Set up overlocker for 4 thread wide seam. Test seam and adjust tensions if necessary. Now you need to serge the edge of the fabric and elastic together, trimming the fabric but not cutting the elastic and stretch the elastic to fit the garment as you stitch. Elastic on top, fabric right side down underneath. Take out pins before you get near them! Start by lifting the front of the presser foot with your finger and placing fabric and elastic under, then start stitching on and straighten up once the seam is onto the elastic. Dont lift the pressure foot, you just stitch, stop, stretch the elastic to the fullness of the fabric, hold it and seam forward a few inches, then stop and repeat the process. Once right round go over your starting point, then turn and serge off the fabric edge and chain off. Cut, pull the chain to pull it flat and tie a hald hitch in it right up close to fabric. Now turn the elastic band to the inside of the garment. You need to secure it. Usually a straight stitch just onto the lower edge of the elastic with sewing machine from outside.

Looks pretty easy, sew the inside leg seam of each trouser leg together,
then sew the ****** seam and do the waistband.

I've got an Elna 634 overlocker, and want to turn

Just trim the fabric to the desired hem length plus one inch, then overlock around this raw edge with thread close colour match to the fabric.

You then have the choice of either stitching around with a stretch stitch on your sewing machine, or hand sewing.

Being lycra shouldn't change how you hem them unless the trouser leg is extremely close fitting and the hem seam is going to be under tension.

My first choice would be using a twin needle in straight stitch from top side but this finish can pop/break if the hem is under tension. But perfect for most knit hems.

If you hand sew then you can turn up hem allowance and put a length of fusible hemming web inside the hem allowance and press it to hold. Then do a back stitch hand sew around to hold hem in place.

If you sew with the regular sewing machine, then use either the stretch stitch or a very small zig zag, and a ball point or stretch needle.

On ready to wear you would see a coverstitch hem but your overlocker doens't have this stitch.

I have a fairly new NS10. I wore out my Elna SU and as I no longer need a machine that does much fancy stuff, I was advised by my sewing machine shop that the NS10 should do much of what I wanted - taking...

Shop where I bought it want me to take it in with the items I wanted to sew and they would see what the problem was. They said it was a lovely machine and shouldn't cause problems.

Broken needle sewing through Corderoy

This machine should be able to sew 9 layers with no real problems but it may be necessary to use a bridge or hump jumper to go over the big hump. Set your stitch length to almost the maximum and sew slowly(one stitch at a time). If it buzzes just turn it off, shorten the stitch length and try again. The above applies if you are using regular thread. If you are using heavy thread, you will need to use a top stitching needle size 18.( It has a larger eye)and adjust your tension as high as it will go to remove the loops on the bottom.

Husqvarna 2000 sl no zig zag movement

You might try oiling where the needlebar slides side to side (and everywhere else). More than likely it needs to be freed up somewhere.  Also there is a small piece called the cam follower that can pop off. Look inside near the cams and the piece with a finger that follows the cams may need to be reattached. They do come loose sometimes. Good luck.
