Turn off the power, then on the side of the WH there should be a Blue cover take the cover off,if u have gloves u might want to use them because u might have to move a small section of fiberglass out of the way after that u will see a black looking box with a red button in the center below that button on most WH u will find the thermostat use a small screw driver to turn it down Clockwise to turn it up Counter clockwise to turn it down Put fiberglass back in put cover on turn power back on

Replace both thermostats and test both elements.

Power is off while doing these repairs.

My family is moving in...how do i increase hot water availability?

large water heater, turn p the themo stat to a higher setting ( watch for burns with young childern and older folks)

or the best install a tempering valve. this valve mixs hot water with cold water before it goes into the building.

Again if you have young ones or old people they can burn faster than any other group.the best is a larger heater for the DIY person.

Thanks Tom

How do I turn up the water temperature on a Marathon 85 gallon electric water heater? I don't see any visible temperature control settings.

The temperature is controlled on the thermostats in the tank. They are under the two covers you see on the outside of the tank. There is an upper and lower thermostat. Make sure you shut off the power before you begin. Remove the cover and peel back the insulation covering the thermostat. Use a flat head screwdriver to adjust temp. There should be a pointer showing the temp its on now. They are probably set at 120 degrees. WARNING--turning your hot water temp above this point can cause scalding and burning in less than 3 seconds. You may have a burnt out lower element. This link below should help you

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE AFTER INSTULATION TO HEAT WATER

Electric water heater typically makes 21 gallons hot water per hour.
Gas heater makes 41 gallons per hour.
If you use a timer on electric heater, it will make enough hot water for shower in about 15 minutes summertimer and 30 minutes wintertime. So incoming water temperature is a factor.

If your water heater is not full of water before turning on electricity, then elements will burn out.
Also the ECO might be tripped out: open top cover and push in red reset button.

Our tankless water heater is about 3 yrs old and when you take a shower the water is so hot it will burn you and when you try to cut more cold on it turns all the way cold we have it turned down as low as...

almost all tankless water heaters have this problem. I would install a small "buffer" tank. for example a small 5 or 10 gallon electric water heater will "mix" the water so that it doesn't come out of your shower cold, or scalding hot.
the instructions that came with your water heater should have a diagram of how to do this. if not let me know, I can send a copy.
the electric water heater acts as a mixing station.
the problem with most tankless heaters is that the water coming in is cold, average 60* and the water coming out is average 120*. sometimes the flame in the unit can't keep up when using large amounts of water, and you will get cold spots. when this happens, the heater will sense this, and then tells the flame it needs more BTU's, so then you will get extremely hot water.
the buffer tank will fix this by mixing the water before it gets to your shower and will give you an even water temperature.

let me know if this helps

It turns on ,starts to get warm. Then turns off

Sounds like you have a problem with water flow. Since your ground water is warmer in the summer, you mix less hot and more cold in order to get the same warm temperature. If your hot water flow gets low enough, your tankless will start to "short cycle" in order to prevent scalding. Use one of these three methods to increase your water flow at the shower:

1) Clean your shower head and descale
2) Widen the hole in the showerhead's flow restrictor
3) Remove your flow restrictor entirely

Good luck!

How do I turn the heat up on my Rheem egsp20?

To adjust thermostat, shut off breaker (power) to water heater, and remove access panel/cover. In behind that cover you'll see the thermostat control has a small slotted screw in center, with a small arrow attached to it. Use a screw driver and turn it slightly clockwise to increase temperature of water. Degrees are usually marked on it, for reference, just turn to point at desired temperature, but don't go too hot and scald somebody, especially any kids that may use it. replace the cover and any insulation that was there, and turn power back on.
