Hi golffymm2,
This problem can be from many things. I will give a few suggestions, inspect the bottom of the tank itself for any small punctures and where the fuel line exits the tank for proper sealing. Check all fuel lines for proper sealing and cracks where they connect and check for punctures or if the lines are brittle or discolored to a yellowish color, if so they should be replaced. Check the carburetor for loose screws on the carb itself or loose bolts attaching the carb to the intake manifold. Also the gaskets might have some leaks. You might have to overhaul the carburetor itself.
How do you store your grass trimmer, is it flat on the floor, stood up against a wall or hung up upside down like many people do? This would be easier to pinpoint where your leak is. Have the fuel lines been replaced? If so, it might not be the proper size, and where they enter the gas tank might leak fuel out slowly. From what you say by leaving the tank cap facing up, you store it horizontally. I think you might have a small puncture on the bottom of the tank or maybe from around where the fuel line enters the tank. Another thing that might be helpful is how much and how fast you lose fuel? Those are a few suggestions that might help. If you wish to ask more questions I will by happy to answer them. I hope this is helpful in some small way. Regards and good luck. Denis.

The fuel system is is a closed-loop system for emissions purposes. There will normally be a slight amount of pressure in the system when in use. If the ECM does not detect that pressure, the most likely suspect is the fuel cap. Check the rubber o-ring seal on the gas cap. If there are many cracks, or a section that has broken out of it, this can cause the error. An OEM approved replacement cap will fix this. Otherwise, you will need to inspect the fuels system lines, as well as the vent lines from the tank for cracks or leaks.

check for a fuel leak along the line. some where you have a loose fitting ie at the fuel filter, fuel line that is allowing the fuel to drain back to the tank The angle of the vehicle shows that airis being sucked into the system somewhere

Obd code p0457 fuel cap replaced mil reset defect not cleared connection checked ok

The code is for a large leak in the EVAP system such as a loose or missing gas cap. But it could also mean a loose or missing hose to the canister or other leak in the tank.
The computer vents the tank several times an hour while the engine is running, and it checks the system by pressurizing the gas tank. If the tank will not hold pressure the code is set.
You may have to check the top of the tank where the fuel pump gasket is, as well as the vent lines to the front of the car.
A mechanic would perform a smoke test to look for leaks.

Internal line in gas tank came loose

hello sir, routing fuel line for craftsman, homelite, ryobi, hedge and line trimmers, fuel tank under engine, looking at machine from rear, shall fuel line on left with filter attached goes to bottom port of carb, fuel line from right side coming out of tank with inside tip attached goes to bottom port of primmer bulb, top line on primmer bulb goes to top port of carb, fuel tank under engine, fuel line routing, looking at machine from left side, left fuel line coming out of tank(drain back only) goes to right side small port of primmer bulb, left side larger fuel line from primmer bulb to top port of carb, fuel line coming out of tank (larger line) on the right side with filter attached goes to bottom port of carb, when replacing fuel line it is very important to use the same ID and OD line the homelite takes a special line that is black in color and a bigger size, the bigger line is ID .08-OD140 small line ID3/32 X 3/16.when the lines dissolve small pieces will get in the carb clogging small passages and screen,it is advisable that you clean out carb, and use a new filter.hope this helps, any comments welcome, thank you. if the filter has broken off of the line half way that is where you will run out of fuel, ``

Check engine light on 2001 chrysler 300m. The code says it has to do with either my gas cap not being tight or some sort of fuel fumes. I'm sorry I don't know the codes.

Make sure that the gas cap is the correct one. If the gas cap was replaced with a different style or a locking cap this will set off the check engine light. It can tell there is a problem because it measures the built-up pressure in the gas tank. So the pressure is not building in the tank due to a loose or incorrect fitting gas cap or a loose, cracked fuel line, or bad check valve in the charcoal canister for the fuel tank vapor release line.

Where does the duck valve go in a Poulan 2150 chainsaw? Iam trying to replace the fuel lines . Does it go in the fuel tank? I need a diagram of the fuel lines.

is your fuel cap missing the hold down that keeps it from falling out of the tank.if the keeper is missing from fuel cap, the valve goes in the cap.if the cap is together then it just sticks in the fuel tank hole in the top...... hope this helps, let me know.................
