It is supposed to dehumidify the air by running the compressor for a short period of time but not long enough to lower the temperature to any large degree

My kenmore 12000 btu portable air conditioner keeps switching to DH mode out of AC mode

That means that it is dehumidifying. Is the air coming out still cold? I assume you have tried using the mode button to switch it back? Is the air extremely humid? Perhaps it is humid enough that the machine needs to dry the air before safely operating as an AC. The manual is available here:

Ac exhaust fan

Yes for dehumidifier, no for heat mode. In dehumidifier mode all the unit does is takes air in, runs it through the evaporator (cold) coil and the back through the condenser (warm) coil discharging dry, slightly warmer air back into the room. In heating mode however if you don't vent the exhaust there will be no heat produced. Warm air will come out the top but cold air will also come out the exhaust (essentially, in heating mode all it does is operates as an air conditioner in reverse. Hope this helps.

I have misplaced my manual for my Kenmore c120 air conditioner. I have always used it for an air conditioner and would like to use the de humidifier mode. Do I use it exaclty the same way, just change...

Well a lesson for you here . the ac mode is a dehumidifer mode .. without a fan to pull the air over the coils to dry it it kinda hard to well .. get it dry. I am not trying to sound wise just a point of learning for you. I thnk you will be fine if you put it in the dehumidifer mode.

"dry mode" normally means, to dehumidify only. this will not cool the air nor heat it consistently.

What does the "dry mode" mean in a Hampton Bay air

The "dry mode" dehumidifies the air. This is useful when you do not need to cool the air but the relative humidity is higher than you want to have inside. You get the advantage of bringing in the fresh air without increasing the indoor humidity.

I hope this helps.

What does the "dry" mode function do on the Goldstar GWHD6507R window air conditioner unit? There are also "cool" and "fan" modes, but the "dry" mode is mysterious. Is it some kind of dehumidifier...

Your AC removes humidity and cools the air, in Dry Mode it cools the air but does not remove the humidity as much, which is OK in a desert (Las Vegas, Arizona, etc.) but not good for caribbean with the high humidity

Could you please explain the ''dry'' setting on the mode

The 'dry' setting is a feature which allows you to use the air conditioner as a dehumidifier. It works by cooling the radiator enough for it to attract condensation (mosture from the rooms air) which then drains into a tank or an external hose which dries the room. Even when used in cooling mode the unit will dehumidfy too, but because the fan is on it will be less effective. Also when the unit is in cooling mode it stops the compressor (cooling motor) when it reaches the selected rom temperature, however the dry function overides this and is a more effective dehumidifier as it will work in small spaces too. Hope this helps.

What is the function of dry mode in ac, when to use dry mode, and when to use cool mode and what about heat mode.

Dry Mode in AC is to dehumidify the room the fan cycles on and off and the indoor unit temperature drops below freezing which causes condensate to collect on the coil and as a result the humidity level of the indoor air is reduced
