Hi,
The problem can be two fold.
1. The operating system on the hardrive has crashed ,
2. The hardrive has crashed.

Look for the operating the system CD or DVD , that would windows operating system on it.
Insert that cd in the computer and press a key. No other cd would work except for that cd. If the system moves from the current scree you are on. The operatig system has crashed and you would have to reformat or reinstall the windows on your computer.

Thanks
Proton

Hi,

Repair the Operating System.

  • Insert your Windows XP CD, save the bios settings and exit. Soon "Press any key to boot of CD" will appear on the screen, hit the space bar to continue.
  • Now setup will inspect your hardware and software, it then will load various files required for the repair. Just wait and be patient, this may take a few moments.
  • Soon a menu will appear (as pictured below), press enter to continue.
  • Now the "End User Agreement" Press "F8" if you agree, "ESC" if you don't.
  • You will now have to select the installation you wish to repair. Usually there is only one, but sometimes, there may be 2 or more (i.e. you have done a parallel install to resolve a problem), use the up/down arrow key to select the install, and then press "R" to continue.
  • Setup will now examine the disk be patient, it can take a few minutes.
  • Setup will go through a percentage - 1 to 100%
  • A screen will soon appear. Press "F3" to continue
  • Now setup will reboot system, wait 15 seconds or just press enter.
  • Now it is time to see if this has solved your problems.
Regards,
Riztech

I cant see disks in disk management how do i install operating system in my pc

You may not have created a partition on your hard disk. To install OS in your PC.

1. Insert your bootable CD in your CD/DVD-ROM Drive.
2. Press any key to boot from CD. Setup will then load the necessary files.
3. Once everything is loaded. Press "C" to create partition. You can specify the amount of disk space on your primary partition. You can also create another partition for the remaining disk space.
4. Select the partition where you want to install your Operating System then press "Enter".
5. It will prompt you to format the partition. Choose NTFS format and press Enter.
6. Once complete, it will reboot your PC several Times. If you're ask to press any key again to boot from CD...DO NOT press any KEY...Just wait for it to load. And it will continue with the setup.
7. Just follow the next steps...

1 . Insert your Windows installation CD. Reboot the computer. Your computer detects the boot media in your drive and asks you to press any key to boot to the Windows installation disk. Press the space bar on your keyboard. A blue installation window is shown.
2 . Press the "R" key to start the Recovery Console process. Press the "1" key to open the command line console. You are prompted for the administrator password. Enter it into the console and press "Enter."
3 . Type the following text into the command line:

copy e:\i386\ntldr c:

4 . Replace "e" with the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive. This command copies the NTLDR file from your installation CD to your hard drive
5 . Remove the CD from the drive and reboot the computer again. The Windows operating system should successfully boot.

What are steps to format a window?

If you are just doing a fresh installation just put in the disk, reboot and when prompted press any key to boot from cd. Then you will have the option to delete the old partitions. Just follow the instructions to do so. It isn't necessary to reformat in this case.
Hope this helped.
If this helps you resolve your problem, please

My computer, a lenovo y510 laptop malfunctioned. After inserting the recovery, and attempting to boot from the disk, the screen simply goes blank instead of opening the normal vista install center.

Hi lightning_ha,

Based on your situation, I suggest trying the following steps:

1. Turn on the system then insert the recovery disk inside the ODD.

2. Now turn off the computer while recovery disk is inside.

3. Turn on the computer, the moment you press the power button, immediately tap the F12 key and press it continuously.

4. Now you have the boot option. Select CD/DVD/ODD by pressing enter then continuously tap it until you see the Windows is loading a file.

5. Wait until it goes 100%.

6. Now it will ask you on what partition you will put the operating system. Just select the partition that has a large capacity or size.

7. Just wait until it completes the whole installation.

8. Restart the computer.

Hope it helps,

Thank you for using FixYa.
