Question about MSI (TM) A6200462US Laptop Computer With 156in LCD Screen Intel(R) Pentium(R) DualCore P6100 Proc PC Notebook

Open Question

I bought aMSI A6200462US Laptop Computer With 156in LCD Screen Intel Pentium DualCore P6100 Proc PC Notebook Problem. at office depot. I specifically asked to make sure there was an actual c drive and not a divided C/D drive and they reassured me that there was only one hard drive and there was no need to worry. I got it home and fired it up and all it show is a d drive with 119 gb hdd. After I pushed control alt del I found out there was another user on it (sdmin) and I did not have the password to get into it. I can easily get a screen that says I need to pay 69'99 to have the computer professionally set up. There are several ads on there for office depot. Is this typical for an office Depot purchase?

SOURCE: Want to re-format MSI Notebook S420.

Hello megan_van

While your laptop is on, eject the optical drive and insert the recovery CD. Turn off your laptop via the power button, and turn it back on. The recovery CD should boot. Follow the on-screen instructions to do a clean install.

If the recovery CD doesn't boot, try holding down the C key after turning on your laptop. If it still doesn't boot, you will have to change the boot order in BIOS. Don't worry, this is easier than it sounds! Follow these instructions:

1. Turn on your laptop, and look for a message that says something like PRESS (USUALLY F2, F8, DEL, ETC.) TO ENTER SETUP / BIOS. Hit that key before the Windows logo appears.

2. After hitting the relevant key, you'll be taken to the BIOS setup utility. All BIOS utilities have different appearances, but it is basically a set of menus containing different settings for your laptops hardware. Somewhere on the screen (usually the bottom), is a set of instructions for navigation your way around the BIOS. Follow these instructions to navigate your way to the option for changing the boot order.

N.B. Since every BIOS setup utility is different, the specifics on where the boot order options are located varies from computer to computer. The menu option or configuration item might be called boot options, boot, boot order, etc. The boot order option may even be located in a general menu like advanced options, advanced BIOS features, other options, etc.

3. Once you've located it, use the navigational controls to place the optical drive above the hard drive (usually the +/- keys). To be certain that the recovery CD boots, it's probably best to move the optical drive to the top of this list.

4. Within the navigational controls, there is usually an option to SAVE & EXIT. Press this key. If there isn't, look for a menu option with the heading EXIT. A SETUP CONFIRMATION box will now usually appear asking you to confrm the changes you've made to the BIOS before exiting.

N.B. The SETUP CONFIRMATION box can sometimes be worded cryptically. Read the message carefully to be sure that you're saving your changes instead of exiting WITHOUT saving your changes!

Your computer should now restart automatically, and the recovery CD should now boot.

Hope this helps. If you require further assistance, please don't hesitate to ask.

SOURCE: My computer was infected by a Trojan. I'm unable

There is a free bit of software called MalwareBytes Anti-Malware. Search google for it and download. Once you install it click update so it gets the latest virus definitions, and once it has fully updated run a full scan. This will hunt down any malicious files on your system and allow you to remove them. If the virus does not allow you to run this program then try booting ino safe mode and then running it.
To enter safe mode you should tap F8 during the computers startup sequence until an advanced boot menu is displayed. Then select Safe Mode.
Hope this helps,

SOURCE: computer turns on to the

Usually blue screens are caused bu problems with hardware. Since the laptop was dropped, I would suggest opening the access doors and taking out each removable component and then reseating them back in their positions. It sounds like perhaps something has been jarred out of place such as a memory module, hard drive, etc. Start with those two and try to boot the laptop after each try.

My laptops screen in up the wrong way, which button do i use to fix this? Thanks.

An upside down image - this is caused by unintentionalpressing Ctrl-Alt plus the down arrow key. Restore by pressing Ctrl-Alt plus the up arrow key. ALSO To change the display from portrait to landscape Press Ctrl-Alt plus a left or right arrow key. Some computers do not have this function.
