Question about Televison & Video
Hi, the word ballast is rather a misnomer in flat screen tv's, reason being flat screens have what are called cold cathode fluorescent lights in them, and there are usually more than one-it has been my experience that the power supplies that drive " ballast's " are what can go soft-and sometimes the power supply has the ballast right on the same board, you can try reducing the brightness to keep set from resetting-that'll tell you if power supply if " soft " on not. also-i have used a different piece of equipments " ballast " to power another-i once used a H.P. pocket pc to power flat screens bulb temporarily for just the same reason, to determine if bulb or ballast was in err. New " ballasts by the way run around 150 if i'm not mistaken they aren't cheap unfortunately. Hope this helps, PRODZILLA
