Question about Maytag Neptune MAH5500B Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Hello. I bought my Maytag LAT9304BGE (hard to read) 15 years ago and have been using it at least once a day since (usually more) with relatively no problems and great results. Early on I had a Maytag repairman come out because it kept spinning after it had turned off. He said I used too much product (I used the recommended on the bottle) so I happily reduced this by 75% and the results have been fine - that was 15 years ago so I know what to do if the machine doesn't stop automatically in the last spin. The original pum 'died' four of five years ago. My husband is an electrician who became an electrical engineer. He likes to fix everything. He bought a Maytag pump and installed it. He couldn't get it to work to my satifsfaction - clothes were not 'spun' out well leaving them very wet and even sudsy. He removed a Fischer and Paykel pump from an old washer on the street because Maytag would not help because he was not a registered repairer. The machine insantly worked to perfection until about 3 months ago. The machine started to trip the circuit breaker at the pump stage intermittently then every time. He retrieved the Maytag pump from the tool shed and reinstalled it. The same problem occurred. This had him perplexed so he resigned to seeking help from a registered repairer (don't know if he is Maytag). He checked out the machine and decided there was nothing wrong with the installation of the pump and that I was using too much product! I argued that any less would be none. He thought that would be a good idea, especially with towels as they were 'saturated' with soap and would have enough in them to wash them for a long time. He also advised that I should never be using cold water or liquid washing product (I never use softeners). The problem would sort itself out once the soap was out of all my clothes and towels. I decided to try his method before I got him back (he offered to come back if the problem didn't recitify itself but that there wouldn't be much he could do anyway). After a week of washing with no product, complaints from the family that their clothes smelt like vomit and poor results with my whites, the problem is not better. Sometimes it is good, most times it is not - especially with heavier loads like towels. They are left heavy and wet and I can see water in the holes at the bottom. I have washed with no soap, tried powder, washed with hot water and CLR (to remove any soap scum) and epsom salts with no clothes. The problem is no better. No one wants to help. I love(d) my machine and thought I would get more years out of it. Do you have any ideas?

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
Sorry but you never mention a drain motor FILTER- does your machine (15 years old) not have one?
Just in case not, I've posted this as clarification so that your posting will stay 'live' for someone else to hopefully help you!
I would gently suggest as a first step that you clean the drain motor lint tray/filter. So many 'faults' are caused by blocked filters and many machines will not even go to spin or release the door lock if there is any water still left inside.
Here are my complete guidance notes for checking both the drain motor filter and the drain motor ;-0)

If you are unsure where the filter is, it is often behind the front lower (kick) panel (or in some machines at the rear in an awkward position!) and most are held in by a round cover/knob. Sometimes the filter will not come out with the cover and you will have to persuade it to come out to play!
REMOVE POWER AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A WATER RECEPTACLE/RAGS TO SOAK UP THE WATER WHICH IS BOUND TO POUR OUT!
It's surprising what people have found in theirs! It is always worthwhile checking it on a regular basis.
Now- whilst the filter is removed it is normally possible to see the drain motor and ensure it is not jammed by a foreign object such as a needle or a toothpick. It should be able to be turned by hand/finger- the power IS OFF!
At this point it is also possible to test if the motor works. No clothes or water in the machine, select a spin cycle and put the power back on. You should be able to see the motor turning at some point, possibly straight away. If it doesn't work then the motor is malfunctioning!
Hope the filter is the problem and good luck!
    John C

Ok few things first one is that if you are on 15 years of use you are well well over life expectancy a modern washer will last round 5 years so in my honest opinion id get a new washer, also u said your husband put a pump from a different brand in there, yeah not a good idea the resistance ratings and wattage is normally different for every brand which will cause it to do pretty much exactly what u described, if u do wish to fix it tho u will have to get a new genuine maytag pump and if that doesnt work your probably looking at a control board, how much have you spent on repairs over its life? cos if youve spent more than 500 bucks on it youve already bought a new washer, youve gotta look at the long jeverty of it like u could fix the pump problem then the next week the motor could die and u jus wasted the money fixing it thats what youve gotta watch with old appliances so yeah my honest opinion get a new one

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

The problem is with the control board that is bad and yes these parts are covered less than 5 to 7 years of warranty, for this you have to contact manufacturer. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Dehumidifier' problem

1. Very few companies manufacture their own dehumidifiers. 2. Due to cost concerns, the coils are made of steel (not something like stainless steel) and will rust / corode, causing refrigerant leakage, often times after only a couple of seasons. 3. Maytag is not the Maytag of 15 years ago. They cheapend their product to lower cost, looking for increased sales, and have been bought out by Whirlpool.

Our GE Advantium oven is Flashing F-3

Hello,
F3 is the error code for control panel failure. A replacement costs~$200. In reading the literature, some people have had temporary success by depowering the unit, removing the ribbon cable to the control board, and cleaning the connections with a pencil eraser. This has bought some people several months of time, some none.... Once ordered, the part usually arrives in several days, and swapping it out isn't hard, once you get to the card.
Hope this helps, --W/D-- please feel free to rate this solution.

My Maytag legacy series dishwasher work one day and not the next

MAYTAG is AWFUL....READ REVIEWS before buying..If I only knew.Another thing Thanksgiving time, all the cooking, company & dishes,I have to hand wash after 3 says of prepeing food.WTF!!!
I am not soo happy at this time.It worked fine after a strugle to get it started & now the next load it's dead as ever.It has the lights lit dim but nothing else will go.I tried everything & cant even read the manuel on it since maytag charges for a viewing of there 5 month old product's manuel. I lost my manuel on mine & refuse to pay to read up to see if there is a reset button.I paid enough for this 5 months ago & it was only installed 4 months new! how's that for crappy appliance not to mention my lemon of a washer i got a few years ago.I see maytag has shittttttttyyyy appliances now when they use to be on top! I's ratehr buy a generic brand for less since it's got more of a warranty to offer. This here buy one or you lose as I & a millioon more..READ the REVIEWS Millioons of us been screwed & this economy who has it to cough up? NOT I !
Have a blessed Thanksgiving everyone ~~ Mine will only get better once I replace my appliances to a more trusting brand & with assurance of a better brand,I dont think I'll have this dealing in a short 4 to 5 month time frame & to mention again on a holiday tons of dishes.I want my money back in triple damages from all this stress
So posting my solution is DON'T BUY MAYTAG

Laptop Gateway mx8711

Gateway laptop is really ****.
I bought Gateway MX8711 in March 2007, after 6 months i use it...the hard disk failed.
Gateway replaced a new Hitachi hard disk for me but not more than 8 months and it failed again.
Gateway told me that i have no more warranty because the repair warranty is only 90 days.
I bought this laptop and use it not more than 2 years, the hard disk was failed twice.
Usually Hard disk manufacturer provided 3 years warranty for the hard disk. The manufacturer year of the hard disk is May 2007....they should able to help because the har disk not more than a year being used...but they don't. This is really bad customer service and not fair to the buyer.
I will not buy any Gateway products anymore....i swear.
