This is usually caused by a failed component in the power circuit within the camera and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

MacBook Pro/FCE does not capture video from XH A1 any more. Message: Cannot initialize HDV deck-please connect camera.

Play the tape on the camera before connecting it to the mac and loading up the software. You could always see if iMovie is giving the same error message too... This usually fixes the problem for me and usually arises when switching between SD and HD on the camera.

XH-A1 Non Recogition

I occassionally have this issue, what you need to do is set the camera playing BEFORE you connect and load up the software. This should then show an image in the import settings in iMovie or whatever you are using. If you are using iMovie, do a manual import and rewind the tape on the camera manually with the import just running. When I do this it usually solves the problem for a while but every now and then it'll arise again, usually when switching between using HD MiniDV tapes and the standard ones and hence switching between SD and HD recording on the camera, seems to confuse it somewhat...

Please help me...When I connect my canon xh a1 to FCP 6.0 it says Unable to Initialize Capture Device Device is not connected or the capture preset is not setup correctly. You may still log offline...

Try playing the tape before connecting up to the mac with the firewire and before loading FCP up. Usually fixes it for me when using either iMovie to import or FCP

You need to upgrade you ingest system. Windows Media Player(and your system card) probably can't handle the load. Try "Scenalyzer" it's economical, versatile and stable( http://scenalyzer.com/).

Playback STD Locked Playback is Restricted message

the tape most likely has the lock switched on, it's secured so no one can even view it, why it happend, beats me, look at the bottom of the tape, if it has the lock switch, and is pushed up to "lock" push it back down, if  that doesn't work than I'm not sure, sorry.
hope this helped- snowsurfer58
