Question about Gateway Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Greetings all, I have an Nvidia geforce 5600 256MB AGP video card, combined w/ an AOC 20" LCD monitor, monitor is set at either 1220x768 or 1600x900. I purchased the 5600 hoping to resolve an issue w/ pixelating while watching movies, upgraded from a geforce 5200 128MB card. Whenever there is a dark background or a lot of movement onscreen it still pixelates somewhat. I have 2.88GHZ Pentium4 processor and 2GB Ram, so I should have sufficient capabilities to get nice video, the Monitor has a 5ms response time and 50,000:1 contrast ratio. Can anyone tell me how I should adjust my settings for best response? I am very PC literate, but Video cards have never been an issue / me as I don't do any gaming, just browsing and Netflix movies...Whaddya think? Thanks Dave

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error
also
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scoll to ports(com&lpt)right click to scan for hardware changes or scroll to monitors + to expand plug and play monitor right click where you have options to update driver, disable.uninstall, scan for hardware changes or select properties where in the general you have the option to troubleshoot also in the driver tab you have the same options as when you first right click on monitor
also
click start control panel, display, desktop you can select a different desktop from the drop down list also settings you can change the settings for more or less pixels or from the drop down list pick the appropriate level of color range or troubleshoot also select advanced then general dpi normal size, larger size or custom settings
always click APPLY after making any changes
hope this helps

Both your video card are extremely old and weak. If you try to view HD movies you will surely get pixellation since the card is too weak to process the huge amount of data in the video file. You really must get something much better, something like

This one is about 6 generation above what you have now.
This is something cheaper, just 5 generations above

I feel you got a failing video card my friend as if the slot failed you would not have got that far!.

Try another video card, you can get them cheap from Fry's.com hold on to your receipt just in case you have a failed motherboard (witch i can doubt that)

Problem installation video card

Hello Virna, i have that exact graphics card and dell GX270 desktop here at home, tho it has been awhile since i removed the Nvidia PCI card for a more favorable AGP card. From what i remember, first check your BIOS (hit F2 on startup) and select integrated devices, scroll down and make sure your default video output is either PCI (if available) or AUTO) exit saving changes. If that yields no result. Plug in a second monitor to your old integrated video output, if you can view windows after bootup from there, then you can install the proper Nvidia display driver for windows Xp (available here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_175.19_whql.html ). After installing, right click on the desktop, select properties, display settings tab, and make sure the Geforce card is the main monitor and the desktop monitor. Click apply, unplug the integrated VGA output, and restart. Hope this helps.

LG 22" TV with Geforce nVidia 5500 FX 256MB AGP card

Try getting a new video driver. Foreware = motherboard drivers and such, not video.

I saw this driver on Nvidia.com

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_175.19_whql.html

Its the XP driver for those 5000 series FX cards like yours. Try installing that and checking out the Nvidia Panel after.

1680x1050 is an odd resolution for TV, that is what normal 22" monitors have but I guess it will do up to 1680x1050 only when hooked up to a PC.
