Hi, owning a 42 inch myself i can sympathize, try using your remotes "ZOOM " function-also try going with an antenna plugged directly into the cable connection on back of set-often times the cable/satellite providers programming is for whatever reason downgraded with the "letterbox " format, I know for a fact, have watched side by side satellite's local area channel and over the air H.D. digital broadcast's-the over the air was FULL screen, satellite was " letter Boxed " the networks however do switch back and forth a little depending on programme i.e.: some commercials are recorded in letter Box, while others have stations logo on either side of screen squaring it off. hope this has been of some help, Prodzilla

Torque specs on valve cover gasket bolts on 1989 Toyota Corolla

I don't have the figure you need on file but i seem to remember the bolts are 6 mm, though it has been a while since I saw one of those cars.
Valve or cam cover bolts aren't usually torqued because they aren't critical and it is a matter of letting experience and good sense prevail.

If a torque figure is really wanted then it will be a matter of just a few pounds-inches. There are charts a-plenty freely available that will provide you with the maximum torque suggested for any size of bolt but again good sense must prevail and the actual figure used in practice, especially if the bolt is oily will be probably only half of the maximum.
For a 6 mm bolt this will be in the region of 25 inch-pounds.

Picture in high def does not fill screen

That is normal. Most HDTV's have a format or picture size option on the remote or menu. It will give you options like full, stretch ot zoom to fill in the blank spots. The problem is those settings can also distort the picture size so people look funny.

Screan turned a shade of purple

I believe you have lost the green channel leaving only the red and blue. It could be an internal connection like a solder joint or connector, or it could be component failure from the CRT to an adjustment pot. Being the set is ten years old it wouldn't be worth spending a lot of money on it. You can buy a 27 inch TV now for almost what a repair would cost. If the picture was very good before this probem you may try to get it fixed cheap. Otherwise it probably wouldn't be worth it.
My 27 inch TV's (A Sony and a Sharp) are pretty old and I would fix them myself if the picture tube was very good.
This may be a very good time to buy considering the discounts being offered. ;-)).
