There are many possibilities, but this forum is not set up for in-depth questions requiring back and forth communication. I hang out at www.suggest-a-fix.com which is a free computer help forum. Post in the Hardware section and I will be along.

just remove the ATX cable from the motherboard (24 pins connector coming from the power supply),the power cable to the HDD and the and the dvd drive and then connect the power and chekc whether the light stays on or flicker ,if it flickers then the power supply is Bad if not then there is a probelm with the motherboard

PC won't power up

Hi! Try to check if there is any power light or any lights on the machine whenever you try to turn it on, also, try to directly connect the power cable directly to the wall outlet.If you have a spare power cable try to use it.If you are getting the same result, try to unplug the power cable at the back of the computer, press and hold the power button for 10 secs and after that plug the power cable back in and then try to press the power button.Check for indicators if the system is getting power for example, check lights, check if the fan is spinning at the back, check if the dvd/cd drive will open or check if the tower is emitting any sound.If still the same and still no light coming from the tower then it might be a issue with either the power supply or the motherboard, you can call your manufacturer and have the machine serviced if its still under warranty.Hope this helps...

Pc wont boot up, instead a red light flickers.

Flickering LED means power supply is overloaded with something. It might be inside of the supply, but sometimes it is something else. Try that:
1. Disconnect everything from the motherboard except power supply and power button;
2. Disconnect all power connectors from all drives;
2. Remove any cards from the motherboard so all you have is power supply and motherboard with CPU and RAM, nothing else. You can keep connected the monitor and keyboard;
3. Press Power button. Will motherboard turn on normally?

If no - check electrolytic capacitors especially around the CPU, if some of them are "popped" replace them.
If yes - connect drives and cards one per time to localize the problem.

No sync means no video signal to the monitor. The rest sounds like a corrupted OS. This could be from a number of reasons, including a virus. If you have NORTON or MacAfee, Your open to a lot of attacks. Get AVG free, and use Mozilla instead of IE.
The reason the fans come on full speed is the MB senses a high temp on the CPU, until the bios fan control takes over after POST. This is normal on most systems.

E-machine 5220 power up

Emachines have notoriously cheap power supplies. Often, while the power supply itself doesn't fail, it causes the failure of motherboard components, essentially trashing the computer.

Try the following:

First check and make absolutely certain that the power switch connector is properly connected to the motherboard. (Take standard grounding/safety precautions: wear a properly-grounded grounding strap, for example, when working with any internal components.)

Obtain a known-good power supply of equal or greater capacity to your eMachines PS and switch 'em out.

If either of these fixes your problem, well and good. If not, the problem may be, as is all too common with eMachines power issues, a motherboard issue caused by the power supply.
