Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner
I have over 35 years in the A/C business and am ASC certified. The motor will normally draw 4 to 6 times it FLA (Full Load Amps) or RLA (Regular Load Amps) when first starting up or is seized. This is called LRA (Locked Rotor Amps). These specs can be found on the motors nameplate and can be checked with an amp meter. If the motor hums and won't start while pulling these high amps, Try giving it a spin with a stick. (in the right direction of course). If it keeps running when helped to start, its probably the capacitor. They normally run about $7.50 wholesale. If its tight in both directions while humming, 1 or more of the field poles is out of balance and the motor will need replacement. Good luck and be careful when spinning it.
