Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have an early ps3 with 4 usb slots, my problem is that when i power on by the front switch, it shuts off, i can repeat turning it back on and each time it stays on just a bit longer each time, i may do this 10 times before it comes on and stays on, and i am able to play any game with no problem until i shut it down, this only occurs when it has cooled down for a couple of hours.... any ideas or thoughts for fixing this problem?

Hi kennh06,
If you can take it apart, concentrate in the power supply board, this is where the power cord connected because the fault is came from it. The caused of the symptom was the leaky/dried filter electrolytic capacitor in that section. It will produce an out-of-regulation to the power supply which made the unit disable, it needs a warm-up to make itself stable(full charged) that's why powering on and off will make it to comes on but the symptom will get worst. Sometimes it has a bulged/dome at the top but not all, you must have a capacitor checker to determine its condition and pinpoint the faulty one. If you don't have it, you may replaced all electrolytic capacitor in the output of the power supply feeding the main board.
Upon installing the new capacitor, ensure the right polarity to avoid further damaged. Once isolated it and replaced with new same capacitance and voltage ratings, your unit will back to normal again.
Here's the sample of leaky capacitor

Xbox wont turn on i just finished downloading halo wars and a few miniutes later it shut off

hey a :-)

is ur power brick 'green/orange/red light on ??
if it is firstly make sure its fully pushed into ur 360 ! (i know.....im sure u tried this already)
It could be RED' ?? but it dosnt really matter.....its still the same fix !
assuming you have some sort of power to the power brick (any colour)
un plug it (from the mains).......
im gonna guess you have been using some sort of USB connection (either a controller charger, wired controller or usb stick)(music ect ect)....either to the 2 front usb slots or the 1 at the back.......??
if this is the case un-plug EVERYTHING from all used usb slots........
now try powering up the 360 .......??
If it still dosnt power up (assuming you have some light on the power brick??) revert to plan 'B'.....
un-plug the power brick from the mains again.....& unplug 'ALL' connected leads from the 360 so you just have the 360 with nothing plugged in ! if you have a torch ect have a look inside all usb slots you have used (for charging ur controller ect even the back one if u have used it ??)
inside all used usb slots are little 'prongs' ...if in the process of plugging in & out chargers/wired controllers ect you accidently bend one of these prongs & it touches the sides of the casing surrounding the usb slot it shorts the board out & results in 'No power up' of the xbox ! its a simple problem to fix yet difficult to spot unless ur told about it !
usually un-plugging all usb used slots rectifys the problem but failing that check inside them for bent prongs !
I find a pair of tweezers or a tiny screwdriver does the job best :-)
plug power lead back in & try again
let me know how u get on ??

hope this helps ??

How to re sync a ps3 controller

Connect the controller. With your playstation 3 system powered down, connect the mini-USB --- which is the smaller of the two ends on the cord --- to the slot located in the center of the top of the PlayStation 3 controller. The USB end of the cord should then be connected to one of the multiple USB slots located on the front bottom of your PlayStation 3 console.Turn on the PlayStation 3. The console will automatically recognize the connected controller, which you can then use to operate the PlayStation 3. By powering up the console with the controller attached, the two will automatically pair up and sync.Shut off the PlayStation 3. Hold down the P button located in the middle front of the controller until a menu appears on your screen asking you whether you'd like to shut down the PlayStation 3, shut down the controller or cancel. Choose the first option and wait until the console powers down. Disconnect the cord from both the PlayStation 3 and the controller.Turn on the console with the controller. Holding down the P button on the controller, wait until the console powers up and the introduction screen appears. Your controller is now synced with the PlayStation 3 system.Troubleshoot your controller. If the above steps do not work, there is another step to take, according to PlayStation's troubleshooting guide. Straighten out a length of paper clip and then flip your controller over so you are looking at the back of it. There is a small hole in which you can insert the paper clip and reset the controller's settings. Once you do, repeat the steps above to sync your controller to the console.

The power keeps shutting down. when you jiggle the switch, it comes back on and when youhold the switch, it will usually stay on. I thing it needs a new switch but I do not know how to open the casing to...

The switch is mounted on a circuit board and has come unsoldered or has broken solder pad. to removed the cover: 1. Remove two screws behind the paper slot. Locate the two small slots on either side of the case(about halfway, front-t0-back, and top-to bottom), insert a small screwdriver and release the latches that hold the top to the bottom cover. With a larger screwdriver, release the front cover latches by inserting the screwdriver between the spacebar and top cover and pull towards the front and up. Tilt the top cover up from the front to back to remove. Remove the 2 screws that secure the power supply unit and lift from center-to left and then manke necessary repairs to the switch. run jumpers if necessary. Assemble in reverse order> Good Luck

HP C6150 Printer that turns off then back on repeatedly

Please DON'T keep posting messages that say "I had the same problem..." Those are useless!

If the software resets don't work, it's possible it's an electronics problem. Here is a repair note that worked for me:

Managed to get rid of error 1203 message. Now repeatedly getting install colour cartridge into righthand side. I've done this (repeatedly) but it's not recognising the cartridge

It could be Error 1203 is an issue that occurs either when a cartridge is bad or the printer cartridge Slot is bad...

1 - try cleaning the copper contacts of the both carts and cart slot in the printer and try again..
or
2 - when error shows up, shut the printers power off; wait one minute and turn it back on press copy.

Unit shuts off

I assume this message is when operating from the internal battery alone, correct? It could be that the unit is confused about the power source status... yes, electronics sometimes get confused too.

Have you tried a hardware RESET? The button is hidden behind the front panel, which snaps off by a fingernail slot located directly under the GARMIN logo on the front panel.

* Use caution removing and reinstalling the front panel... it's somewhat fragile... wiggle it a little to get it off.

Press where it says "Press to Reset", hold for a second or two. Charge the unit with the car cord or USB cable, then try to turn it on again.

Once you can get the unit to (hopefully) turn ON, you should run all updates (there may be several!) using Garmin's Webupdater. (Connect to computer with USB cable first.)

Hope this helps!!

I understand how frustrating that must be. How big is the hard-drive that came with your unit? Did you buy it brand-spanking new or used? Update to version 2.2. It came out last night. Then, once that is complete, shut down your PS3. Unplug everything from your memory card ports and usb slots. Unplug the power cable at both ends (from the wall and the ps3). Then switch the PS3 hard switch (on off, lever, not the soft method of turning it on by a mere touch). Leave it that way for 10 minutes. Plug power cable back in at the PS3 and then at the surge protector/power-strip (wall). Turn in on with the switch and then use the soft method (described above) on the front. That should fix it. If not, send it back for a warranty exchange. Good luck.

When i put my headset to charge it stops charging after 5 seconds

if you are using the USB port on the computer to charge it, it may be an issue of your computer going into "Power Save" mode and shutting down the USB power. I found this by google searching "usb power save mode"... Possible Fix: 1. Click on "Start" and then right-click on "My Computer." 2. Click on "Properties" and then on the "Hardware" tab. 3. Half-way down on the right, click on "Device Manager." 4. Click the "plus" sign in front of "Universal Serial Bus Controllers." 5. Double-Click on the first "USB Root Hub" (not USB 2.0 Root Hub). 6. Click on the "Power Management" tab. 7. Uncheck the box that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." 8. Click "OK" and repeat for all other "USB Root Hubs." 9. Finally, close all and go back to the desktop.
