Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Error code 28, means a Driver Error,
the solution is to go to the device manager,
1.) start, control panel, system, hardware, device manager,
2.) locate a device with a yellow highlight
3.) right click it and select update , follow the onscreen instructions
reinstall the driver using the driver cd. that came with it.
if that fails you need to go to the manufactures website for that particular device , locate the driver and download it, then install it. PS if its on the mainboard you can go to the OEM system builder you have like dell or hp , if you dont have and oem system go to the mainboad manufactures web site, Biostar and MSI.

The code 28 error is generated by the Windows XP Pro Device Manager when the driver for a particular piece of hardware has not been installed on the computer. If you want to fix a Windows XP Pro error code 28, you'll need to install the driver for the particular device that is generating the error. This process is not difficult and requires only a basic knowledge of computers to complete.
Locate the driver for the device that is generating the code 28 error message in the Device Manager. You can do this by locating the disk that came with the hardware that contains the driver or by visiting the manufacturer's website and downloading the driver.
Open the Device Manager on your computer by clicking on "Start," opening "Control Panel," clicking "Administrative Tools" and selecting "Device Manager."
Right-click on the device that is generating the code 28 error message and select "Properties." Select the "Driver" tab and click on the "Update Driver" button. This will start the Hardware Update Wizard, which will ask you to select whether you want to install the driver manually or automatically. Choose the manual installation option, and then select the path to the driver that you downloaded or which is on the driver disk.
Restart your computer once the driver has been properly installed to ensure that the device is working properly and no longer generating a code 28 error.

The Code 28 error is one of several Device Manager error codes. The Code 28 error will almost always display exactly like this:
"The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)"
Details on Device Manager error codes like Code 28 are available in the Device Status area in the device's properties: How to View a Device's Status in Device Manager.
