Question about Whirlpool Dryers

Open Question

I have a roper/whirlpool dryer model RED4440VQ1. I have a no start issue. No sounds, no motor functions. I have by passed the power swith and door swithch. It has power on the main terminal, to the on/off switch, timer switch, continuity on the door switch, thermal fuse, thermistors, heating element. Even have replaced the drive motor. I have continuity between all wire runs. Could the timer cause a no start issue? I have exhausted my resources. Please help. How would you test the timer swich? Thanks for any input.

SOURCE: Dryer does not heat up and now wont start!

Recheck for 220 at plug. May have tripped breaker.
PULL PLUG FIRST!!
Remove rear panel. Check for continuity at white thermal fuse located near bottom center on the blower housing. It should close to 0 resistance. Also check hi-limits on side of heater housing. Also should be close to 0 resistance. If any are open, replace and clear venting. Also remove 4 screws on bottom of filter housing and pull bottom of housing out. Reach in and remove lint.

SOURCE: Whirlpool LER5644A No heat and motor wont Turn

Replace the dryer wires.
Put your meter leads into the 4&5 slots.
Make sure the door switch is closed or jumpered.
Push the start button.
If you read no voltage the issue is with the wiring, the timer, or a relay.

SOURCE: Whirlpool duet electric wil not heat

Remove 1 wire from the element . Your 220 V comes from ...110 motor , 110 control board . Check which wire is not getting 110 V , trace it and see which it comes from . That will tell you which one is defective .

Roper RED4440VQ1 how do you know if high limit thermostat is broken?

you have to unplug the dryer, and remove at least one of the wires and read it out with a meter to check it for continuity.you can go here and see the parts you need to check,http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Roper-Parts/Dryer-Parts/Model-RED4440VQ1/0893/0151200/W0905172/00003?blt=06&prst=0&shdMod=RED4440VQ1
check the element, part number 17 on the diagram and is part 279838,if that's good check the thermostats on the heater box, part 9 and 15 on diagram,if one of them is bad buy part number 279816,it replaces both of them, also check the thermal fuse number 7 on the diagram and it's part 3392519.your lint filter is on top so all your parts are in the back, pull out the dryer, unplug it,remove the vent line and then the back panel, also take out the lint filter and the two phillips screws that are on the top panel and in front of the lint filter, when you're in the back, remove the 4 screws and clean out the metal duct that the filter slides into,if the vent line is a long run you can blow it out with a leaf blower, make sure nothing is blocking the air flow outside,if there's a cage or screen remove it so the lint doesn't build up and block the air flow.hope this helps and good luck.

Roper dryer movel RED4440vq1 drum does not turn. replaced motor, still not workking. belt is good. wiring harness is supplying 120 v on the 2 end red leads. door switch good. push to start button good.

The thermal fuse is likely blown. Disconnect power then remove the rear panel to access the thermal fuse on the blower housing.

Once the panel is off, bypass the thermal fuse by joining the wires together then insulate them properly. Reconnect power and start the dryer. The thermal fuse is indeed blown if the dryer starts. Replace it including the cycling thermostat.

Dryer will not start sometimes, could this be the on off swith?

When a dryer won't run, there are several things to consider:
  • Is the circuit breaker thrown? Can you read 240 volts at the wall plug?
  • Are the wires at the power cord burned? (Very common)
  • Can you read continuity thru the door switch? Does the door switch click when closed?
  • Check for a belt switch near the motor....this will cause the dryer not to run if open.
  • Have you checked the thermal fuse?
  • ===you need a good meter to check all of this=======
