Question about HP Pavilion dv7-1132nr Notebook PC

1 Answer

I have an HP Pavilliion dv7 notebook PC, dual-core processor, 64-bit Operating System running Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2. The sound has ceased working, both external and headphone speakers. Yesterday the laptop shut down twice due to over-heating. I use an elevated lapdesk with the laptop. I have unplugged the laptop, removed the battery and rebooted. Did this twice. Still no sound. Can you please advise.

Sounds like the main problem is the shutdown and overheating. With that I would check what is running on the computer thats making it run so hot. Get on of those vista sidebars that show how much memory and cpu usage is going.

As for the audio right click the audio icon in the lower left hand corner and open volume mixer check to make sure they aren't on mute. Also check that the button right in the center of the laptop that is usually blue I believe is indeed on. Else it would be muted.

You may be able to install a quad core processor on your motherboard, will need the model to check.
You can't make new cores out of nothing though.

How can I get the SP-1 service pack from MS to load?

Go to this link and save the file:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/thankyou.aspx?familyId=b0c7136d-5ebb-413b-89c9-cb3d06d12674&displayLang=en

If you can not download it from the Vista computer, try to download it from a friend's computer and save it to a thumb drive or burn it to a CD. This is for the 32-bit Vista Operating system. If you are running the 64-bit OS (don't just go by your Processor that is 64-bit, but your actual Windows Vista operating system), then go to this link for the 64-bit version:

Hope this does the trick!

32 bit program to 64 bit opperating system

From the Autocad webiste:
System Requirements AutoCAD® Civil and AutoCAD® Civil 3D® 2009 Recommended System Requirements Recommended configuration (excluding server components used with project management capabilities):
  • Intel® Pentium® 4 (3 GHz or higher); AMD Athlon™; multiple processors supported, dual-core supported
  • 32-bit only: Microsoft® Windows Vista® Ultimate/Business/Enterprise, Microsoft® Windows XP (SP2)
Note: Windows XP 64 and Windows Vista 64 are supported in 32-bit compatibility mode only.

Here's how you should be able to run it in compatibility mode:
1. Right click on the Autocad Icon in your start menu
2. click on Properties
3. click on the Compatibility tab at the top
4. check the box next to Compatibility Mode and select Vista 32 bit if it is given as an option.

I don't have Vista here, but that is how it works in XP and I did do a search and it appears to be the same in Vista.

I read this and don't believe you - yes the AMD dual core gets hot - yes AMD processor are HOT processors - is intel better - no there on par with AMD - the thu put rate is so close it doesn't matter - now vista basic is just that BASIC - if you want to bump it up - home premium 32 or 64 but ultimate 64 should get it going.
