This is probably the relay and / or start capacitor. Sounds like replacing this part would solve the problem. More info, let me know.

Breaker trips when you try to start compressor motor spins a little before tripping breaker

Just fixed my compressor. It would start ok when the tank was empty but trip the breaker if it tried to start with pressure. Searched and read about weak caps, or problem with check valve or pressure switch leaving pressure in the pump head, etc. Turned out that the black plastic box which holds the 2 start up caps and is attached to the end of the motor with 2 screws had cracked on the bottom. The black box had tilted out enough that the start up caps switch was not engaging. Pushed on the lower part of the box and it started perfectly. Fixed it for the cost of some 2 part epoxy. Maybe not your fail, but definitely worth checking out first.

GE ice box control board revamp

These new fangled GE ice boxes have auto defrost boards in them. The boards control the compressor, the fans, and the damper as well as the defrost functions. The program in the computer board uses a method to determine defrost such as how many times the door was opened and how long the compressor has been going (hours) and how long it took for the last defrost cycle. this is to insure even defrosting no matter what climate you live in. The board relies on inputs from sensors located in the freezer compartment and the fresh food compartment. It also relies on a sensor for defrost action a larger bulb mounted on the coil. If the bulb gets out of place it could compromise defrost operations. The board itself is easy to remove and cannot be screwed up wiring wise because all of the quick connects are different. The board itself is mounted on 4 plastic standoffs. On one of these boards I removed I noticed a burntspot on the back side of the board. It was the compressor relay that activates the compressor from the board. My opinion is today's lead-less solder does not hold up as well as older type lead soldier and therefore the heat from the relay melts the soldier. I took a cheap iron and re soldiered the connection the board and re installed it. The ice box has been working great every since for more on diagnosing GE ice boxes with auto defrost controls check out my web page
The page has service manual downloadable for late model GE refrigerators.

Refrigerator/freezer not working

remove the bottom panel on back of fridge. locate the compressor( round black object with copper tubing coming out of it. check where the wiring plugs into it and you will probably see a white plastic box attached to the compressor.this part can be pried off with a screwdriver and if it is white this is your problem. whirlpool had a defect in this relay and they go out quite frequently

Fuseholder melted overdrawing amps and not heating amana hcd18sd

FUSEHOLDERS MELT ON MICROWAVES ALL THE TIME its the most common thing that makes the microwave die 99.9% of the time its nothing , something to do with the metal that is usedin the fuseholder , and the fuse .with a long run of the oven the fuse gets hot and the fuse melts inside . sometimes you can get away with a little contact cleaner on the holder and a new fuse . other times you will need a new fuseholder too. good luck

Kenmore Model # 596.735032.. Fridge is cool, Freezer is not freezing

After pulling the fridge away from the wall and removing the lower right hand panel I noticed that the compressor (big round black ball with copper tubing) was not turning on. I also noticed that there was a ticking or popping sound comming from it every couple of minutes or so. After doing some research online in numerouse forums I decided to try and replace the overheat relay that is attached to the compressor. It only took maybie five minutes at most to change it and the compressor is now working with nice cold air comming into the fridge and freezer. Hope this helps someone else with the same problem.

I have a ed5fhgxkq00 side by side Whirlpool refridgerator that stopped cooling. It worked fine up until last night when we noticed that the ice was melting. Now it gets a little cool but not cool enough....

If the compressor has a fan next to it, be sure it is running. if the relay is clicking every few minutes it may need to be replced. contact local parts distributor.
