Household refridgerator freezer compartment icing badly

If the ice door is open that will need to be repaired first before solving the ice melting and stopping the ice auger from moving. What may be happing is the ice door stuck open causing warm moist air from outside the refrigerator to be drawn in covering everything with frost and possibly locking down auger and causing the refrigerator to run continuous. The condensate drain line behind the rear wall of the freezer could also be the case. What is the model number found around the fresh food section? If blocked by gunk or ice you will see trails of liquid leaking down the rear wall of fresh food compartment until it reaches the crisper drawers. This is not always the same with every model as you may see frozen ice flowing down ther rear wall of freezers on side by sides. Here is an example Click here=> Whirlpool Leak Photo taken by TechnicianBrian He has been around a good bit and deserves credit for his contributions. Here is another way to make this look more si mple in clip below. TechnicianBrian.com And in this photo are several parts listed in photo group #1 were it is most likely running down the wall=> MagicChef CTB1921AR fresh food section. If you still have questions please ask and rate me if I was able to explain this well enough. Every refrigerator is made different so these are examples only. The key is to find if ice or just gunk has blocked you defrost drain. Unplug and then remove the rear panel in back of freezer. We need to see if the water is overflowing the condensate drain tray or if the blockage is in the turn the drain leads down back of your refrigerator. Much more on this page=> Leaking Refrigerators!. Fridge warm, freezer has frost on back panel & is defrosting, fans work, just changed defrost thermostat, no air is moving from freezer side to fridge side, drain pan under fridge is dry

this fan needs to run when the compressor runs, check fan blade for being jammed by ice if you have this much ice on back wall as ice will stall motor,if no fan there will be no cool air to refrige compartment also the defrost drain tray will fill with water then freeze over which in turn floods the freezer floor and refrige compartments cause it cannot drain to the pan in the bottom

My ice maker not making enough ice . I have already check the water. thank you

When an icemaker slows production, the problem is not the icemaker at all but the temps in the freezer warming up because of an airflow problem either in the freezer compartment evaporator coils or underneath the unit that being the condenser coils. (Fan not working or lint blockage)
Airflow problems in the freezer compartment are caused by the fan or the automatic defrost system not functioning properly so yu end up with an ice block / lots of frost in the freezer compartment on the back wall of the compartment.

Check for ice or large amounts of frost in the freezer compartment. If you note ice / excessive frost, unplug the unit, empty the freezer compartment and do a manual defrost by directing an external fan into the compartment for just over 2 hours. This will ensure the evaporator coils and the freezer compartment drain have thawed. While the manual defrost is in progress remove the rear fiberboard cover from the compressor access and check / clean the condensor coils and fan area.
After 2 hours clean up the excess water.. reassemble the rear cover and return the unit to NORMAL service. It should start making lots of ice in 4 to 6 hours. Here is the kicker... if there is an auomatic defrosting problem your icemaker will after 2 - 3 days again slow ice producion and ice will build up in the evaporator area. You will have to keep repeating the manual defrosting process every 3 to 4 days until the automatic defrost system is repaired.

There are 3 main components of the Automatic defrost system:
1. Defrost control
2. Defrost heater
3. Defrost thermostat or depending on type thermistor

Most of the time the problem is either the defrost control or the heater that fails and the unit stops defrosting.

Fridge and Freezer Not getting Cold

Your defrost system is at fault.
With this brand it is most likely the defrost thermostat and defrost heater located behind the back freezer panel.
Remove the shelves and bin, then remove the freezer panel. Defrost the ice manually.
Replace the thermostat and heater assembly.

3 1/2 year old whirlpool side by side has frost and ice building up inside the freezer compartment close to the door. Freezer seems to run continuously also...help?

hi ,
your freezer cabinet need to get all out and open the back wall.
  1. you have 2 element that can be check one is the heating element , two is the thermostat.
  2. you need a volt meter to check them.
  3. if the frost is all over the coils then one of the element i told you before, is bad
  4. if the frost is in one area not all over then you got gas leak.
  5. good luck

The fridge compartment does not coolbut freezer is ok in my no frost model, there appear to be problem in getting cold freezer air into fridge area

look in the back of freezer . if there is ice or frost on back wall . then your coil is ice packed .. this is caused by the failure of defrost system . when ice is blocking coil the air that goes to the fresh food side doesn't get there. ..

The freezer compartment on my fridge keeps icing up over a couple of months. How can i prevent this please.

if the freezer has air and the rear freezer wall has frost on it, the evaporator coils are iced up and need defrosting. causes:
1. low refrigerant
2. no fan
3. too much humid air in fridge/freezer due to door open or bad door seals
4. the condensate drain tube is clogged

if the seal around the door is ripped or not completely sealing, or there is condensation at the bottom or the walls of the fridge, replace the seal(s).

no air, no fan. Replace

if the refrigerant is low, it just needs a top off. but you need to be certified by the epa to move refrigerant, so get a professional.

defrost solutions:
unplug the fridge. remove the wall of the freezer that is frosted/icing up. use a hair dryer to melt the ice. do not get too close. you will see a drain under the evaporator coil. make sure it is not blocked. the water should run freely to a condensate pan under the fridge that evaporates the condensation with the hot line from the compressor. once the coil is free of ice, frost, and water, replace the panel and repair any of the problems that caused the icing up. plug the fridge in and turn it on. If it frosts up within a week, there is still an issue that not been taken care of.

Freezer compartment has frost buildup

This can be caused by the drain hole below freezer coil being blocked by ice. You MUST remove all ice in drain under freezer coil. Use turkey baster to squirt hot water into hole and use hairdryer to defrost. Possible defrost thermostat is defective. Unit never goes into defrost, ice forms on coil and in floor of freezer. After defrosting may work OK for a week or two but gradually gets warmer because ice is blocking ports where cool air gets to refrig. May also have water in refrig box. Can also be caused by defective defrost timer.

HELP ME

Remove back wall from inside freezer and melt all frost with a hair blower. The most likely cause of the frost build up is a burnt out defost heater, second most likely cause is the defrost control. Can't give you part numbers because you don't list a model number or even a brand. Melting the frost and not fixing the underlying problem will get your refrig working for a week or so until the frost builds up again.

FRESH FOOD COMPARTMENT TOO WARM

it could be a defrost heater problem . the heating cycle is not defrosting the ice that is why your having frost build up. the heater could be damaged, thermosdisc damaged, electronic timer module damaged.try thawing it up by unpluging it for a day or two until there is no more water dripping at the back then try it again, im sure the refrigerator section would cool again for a week or two before it wouyld go back to the same problem. dont forget to bring back the setting to 5 for freezer and 35 for refrigerator in order for the thermostat to work.
