The control board is located behind a panel on the back of the fridge...

Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong.

If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...

Check out these tips that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Usually when there is a power failure or surge the PCB printed circuit board can be damaged on old or new refrigerators. It is just one of the problems associated with electronic controlled refrigerators. Your model has a=> DA41-00669A Control Board Unplug and examine to see if there are swollen capacitors or burn marks. You cannot always see damage to the board so if not then return the control board. I'm here if you care to ask questions. Compressor and fans stop? Cooling stops? My GE side-by-side is not cooling.

The electronic control board is probably your culprit. These control boards control the compressor, fans and defrost. Look for any burned spots on the printed circuit bout it could be just bad.

Hello, I cleaned the refregerator ( not freezer) the door was open a several time but not for long time (didn't turn it off). After a few hours I noticed the refrigerator and the freezer...

Hi Tania,
This could be that the freezer is on a defrost cycle. Let it go overnight and see if you have temp in the morning. Let me know what happens so I can find out more if no relief.

The refrigerator isn't cooling. Freezer is ok.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

Freezer has stuck in defront and stops cooling

Yours has a defrost timer board inside the fresh food compartment and behind the control panel. The only way to stop this is by replacing the board. Part number 4388932 and here is a view of its location inside the fresh food compartment. Just be sure the power is unplugged while working with board.

Control panel not working and fridge and freezer

You might have part of the answer in your own question - You would need to have it serviced - most likely the control board / electronic controls that has gone bad - this board controls compressor cycling and other functions of your refrigerator. Look for any error messages or blinking lights or a red service light if any - you could try unplugging your refrigerator for a few minutes and plug it in again if you are lucky and things reset otherwise have it checked. There is nothing much you can do on your own here without knowledge on the parts and how to locate it.

Other than control boards, if your compressor IS running but cooling takes a long time then check the condensers at the back if they are dirty, you need to keep those dust free and clean them about once or twice a year - warm, no cool, compressor running, I would then check for low refrigerant / leaks in the system (although rare). Most common problems affectin refrigerators are defrost timer problems, relays and controll boards going bad

2002 Kenmore 160.61 Refrig / freezer (top)

I assume that you noticed a loss of cooling in the refrigerator and freezer? In order to tell if it's the defrost timer, a good idea would be to check and see if there is a large amount of ice behind the interior back panel of the freezer (where the evap fan motor is located). If there is, you most likely have a defrost problem. There should be some frost, but it shouldn't be thick chunks of ice.

Otherwise, you probably just need to replace the fan. If you have a GE that takes an electronic control board, you may need to replace it as well. Please let me know if you have any more questions.
