Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

2 Answers

LimeWire I am having trouble connecting to LimeWire. I believe it is my router (Linksys - WRT54G). I have a direct connection to the router with my desktop and a wireless connection to my laptop. I may have touched the reset button a few weeks ago on the router. How do I get the router to accept me connecting to LimeWire?

Hi

If you have recently got a new router, there would be a firewall on the router blocking the required ports for LimeWire to operate. To get around this, refer to your Router's user manual and find out how to access it and then unblock those certain ports. PLEASE NOTE: Do not attempt to unblock all the ports as this will increase the risk of getting your router and perhaps your computers infected with viruses.

If that is not your problem, you may be using and ISP (Internet Service Provider) that has blocked those ports as downloading music uses a lot of bandwidth which is a burden on them. If you have Satellite Internet, this is probably the case. You can try and resolve this by contacting your ISP and negotiating a price for them to unblock the port for you.

Please remember to give this solution a FixYa! rating.

Kind regards

Couple actually... 1. See if you can reset the router once and set it up once again. 2. Check if you can upgrade the firmware of the router. 3. To ensure this is not a wireless issue, go wired and check if the issue continues4. Also connect to the modem directly , bypassing the router to make sure its not the modem thats actually causing the trouble.

Have a WRT54G lately my hardwired desktop connection has been loosing it connection while my 2 laptops will stay connected with no problems.. only way hardwired connection will reconnect is to reboot...

How long have you been using the router? Might need to update the firmware on your WRT54G. But do it EXACTLY as instructed on the Linksys website, as incorrect attempt can result in need for new router. I know that sounds drastic, but you can do it just fine - just be aware that you have to follow the steps precisely as they are stated and in the correct order. Never had a problem myself, but have heard of those who did, and it was ALWAYS because they did not follow directions. If you are not comfortable doing it, get a "techie" friend to do it for you.

I have a linksys wireless g router that worked fine until yesterday. Now it won't connect to the internet. I have a desktop wired to the router and a laptop used wireless.

Check if you can connect to the internet when hooked directly to the modem. If your connection works fine through the modem, then your router needs to be reconfigured.

Linksys wrt54g SRX200. I can connect to my router

It appears the connection between the Linksys and the modem is not working.
Try a different LAN cable.
Check the LAN cable from the modem to the Linksys, it should be connected to the WAN/Internet port on the Linksys.

My linksys router won't allo me to connect to the internet.

Well to be honest. The reason you keep having the problem is because your router resets itself every few hours. If your routers firmware was already updated by LInskys support and the same thing happens then you will indeed need a new router. Newer models and even the one that you have are all reliable the only problem in your case is most likely wear and tear. You have had it for a few years now hence most likely its degraded to a point that it resets itself which causes your problems so yes i would suggest you get a new one. YOu can get the latest WRT54G V8

My laptop won't work wireless

Use windows network setup wizard to help in setting up your wireless. The wizard can search for your wireless. Some people believe you gan get away without using Linksys's software & I agree to a point. However Linksys believes to maintain a good connection you should install the software for the wireless router. You can download it from the link below. Check out the link "Learning Center". You might find it helpful. http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1166859837401&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=3740137401B343
I suggest to all running a wireless connection to set up security with a password to keep freeloaders from tapping into your bandwith for free.
Luck!
