Question about Alesis RA-150 Amplifier

1 Answer

Hi there, I have an ALESIS RA300 AMP that has been diagnosed as having a totally corroded main power board? The electrician has been having trouble locating one to replace the old one, so I thought I would contact you guys and see if anyone can help me with what this part actually is and who I can order one from? I have absolutely NO idea about the internal organs of things with buttons and knobs and bright little lights.... : ) tnx, Cristina.

Thank you for the link, I do appreciate that, tho as I mentioned I have no idea what it is I am looking at... could be a UFO landing strip for all I know? Anyhoo, I would still like to know the name of the thing I need to order, so that I can give it to the electrician and he can have fun with the manual and fix my much loved and sorely missed AMP. Any more suggestions?

Oh, I see, that makes sense, and then he can tell me exactly what the part is and I can order it? I thought that when he said 'main power board' he was already identifying what the part is? Thank you, I shall see what he says.
Hopefully then I can give a clearer part description and you shall be able to guide me in where to get it?
    Cheers, Cristina

Hello. RA300 used only in a studio environment, never pushed hard. During a mastering project we lost one side of the amp. Thanks!

The first things to check are the devices on the heatsink. They do all the work so tend to go when pushed! Remember stereo amps are just two amps put together, so at least you have a good channel (which is the same as the bad one) to do tests with say an ohmeter.

I have an elesis RA 500 it blows the slow blow fuse when i plug it in .any ideas what is wrong?

hi there,
it sounds like the internal transformer has gone.
It's not user replaceable and will require you to take to an electronics store to be repaired.

SAME THING RECENTLY HAPPEN WITH ONE OF MY BITS OF KIT ...... for heavens sake don't just keep changing the fuse time and time again.

Alesis RA 500 makes a "clicking" sound and no more sound. later it will "click" on again

Clicking sound is a protection relay. This means one of the power amp sections have failed. Or that your speakers connections are faulty

Took my RA300 and Tannoy Reveal X speakers to a cellar party for halloween. No drinks were spilled or anything but it had an ipod plugged into it most of the night and the volume on the amp turned to max,...

Normally when people bring their HI-FI to a party they tend to fix up the leads to the speakers in a flimsy manner ( as it is only temp) . With the crowd mulling around these leads(wires) could very well come loose or even short out. This leads to your Final Drive ( Output Amp) to short out. It is not an expensive repair. Check your final amp & replace any shorted/blown items. To get full satisfaction the job best be handled by the local agents of the amp.

Amp not powering up

Chek transfomer with a multi meter set on continuity, check primary input across wires AMPLIFIER MUST NOT BE PLUGGED INTO WALL SOCKET...check outputs low readings in ohms are good no readings mean open transformer(buggered

I suspect outpuit stage short as this probably buggered relay in first place

Alesis M1-Active left speaker emitts a very high pitched wine that sounds like feedback

have your built-in amp checked for trouble. there should be trouble in the output stage feedback loop. this is something to be done by a repair technician

Amp cuts out after a while

My Alesis SA-300 started the cutting out when at moderate levels some months ago... Well, Radio Shack has instant gratificaion for those who have one in the neighborhood. Part number 275-249 will do the trick!

I replaced the Dong Woo part with the Radio Shack item and the amp is back to its old self... maybe even a little better. Loud, clean and steady.

Thanks to all you who have contributed to this thread.
