Question about Troy Bilt 20HP VTwin Hydrostatic 50" Riding Mower

1 Answer

I am not getting power to anything on my mower. I figured the battery had gone dead over the winter and I replaced it. Still, it is completely dead. I uninstalled the battery, took it to where I bought it and had it tested. It was 99.6% charged and tested good. When I turn the key, I don't even get indicator lights on the oil, battery, PTO or brake lights. Is there a fuse somewhere I might have blown, or is it likely a problem with my ignition switch?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
There is a fuse and it is usually located inside the cowling in the plane of either the right or left foot pedals and will be not far from the main electrical harness. (2 - 4 inches.) It may have a retangular black plastic cap over the fuse. It will be a 20 Amp to 30 Amp fuse and nothing will function if it has blown. If you replace the fuse and it fails right away you know your going to have to go in search of a ground on the positive lead wires after the fuse. Common areas for shorts are the pedal and seat switches but you can have a short any where including the ignition switch. You can find the short by just doing resistance checksif there is one... you just have to isolate as you go.

In the future if you need more information and troubleshooting help I will need your complete model and SERIAL number (No short cuts) because manual searches require ALL of that information.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Testimonial: "The problem I explained was indeed a blown fuse, it just wasn't in the area that we might have thought. It was in a line by the battery."

I have a LT1000 riding mower, the other day while i was mowing the engine just shut off.I tried to start it back up and does not do anything.Completely dead?

If the engine doesn't do anything then it is probably a bad relay on the starter. If it turns just a little bit, but not very fast then you either need to charge or replace the battery. You can take the battery to your local parts store and they should be able to test/charge it for you.

Won't start

Neither. You have a dead battery. Replace it, and when you store it for the winter get a smart trickle charger and keep your new battery charged over the winter.

Mower will not start will make clicking noise. did start at for one minute

Your battery is dead. Replace it.
In the winter keep a smart trickle charger on the battery to prevent it from discharging. Lead/acid batteries lose 1% of their charge per day and are basically junk in 3 months. They have to be kept charged.
