It sounds like you have the fax reception mode set for manual instead of automatic. Not sure on this model, but there is either an option in the setup menu for the printer or a button right on the control panel that changes this option. You want automatic mode turned on.

I have been having trouble receiving faxes. It doesn't always happen, only occasionally. The printout says "no fax detected"; even though it has rung, it doesn't seem to connect....

!st thing that I do with intermittent fax problems is to call the phone carrier.
Tell them that you are having fax problems. Ask them to test your line. You could have a bad cable or noisy line.

Cannot receive fax - need to set up external TAD receive mode but gives error message "DR Mode in Use"

The machine should have a menu selection. Sometimes it takes patience and time to sit down and go through items to select.
Without having a manual to check, these menus should be available for one to make changes to the fax features.
Somewhere in the menu selection there should be a fax setup recieve and send mode. In that selection you should find the choice to make your changes.
If you do not have a manual, other than finding someone with a manual, this would be your best way to make the changes.
The vender might have the manual, if they do, it might be for a fee.
Good luck

Transmission problem

You need to turn off the "fax to server option".

To do this do the following:
1) Press 'Menu'
2) Goto '6. LAN'
3) Goto '6. Fax to Server'
4) Select 'Off'.

I dont remember how to recieve a fax!

I find that you have to have the fax button lit up. If it is not lit up when a fax comes in, the fax is stored in the memory. You have to hit the fax button, go into the menu and go to memory reference, then the doc # of the item in memory should appear. You should then be able to print the stored fax. Hope this helps!

When I try to fax and hit the send fax button in the window recieve appears

Fax machines are ANALOG devices. DSL is digital.

Before throwing it out, it would take it somewhere where there is a regular phone line (Plain Old Telephone System([POTS] and test it.

Sending a fax

First make sure that the fax button has been pushed and is llit...

The 2820 should have a handset. In order to use manual transmission (when you get to hear all the beeps and whistles) you will need to load the document then pick up the handset. then dial the number, when you hear the recieving fax tone then hit the start button.

The 2820 should also have a hook hold button pressing this will allow you to hear the dial tone and the numbers you dial along with the receiving fax tone. If you dont hear anything when you press this button then you may want to use the volume buttons to increase the volume.

Also remember that if you have not picked up the handset or pressed he hook/hold button the unit will use automatic mode, which is to say that all you will do is load the document, dial the number, and then press the start button.

Fax

I had same issue. We found a blog that worked for our machine. Go to Fax settings and navigate to RX Settings (receive mode settings). Select ECM and select "Off" vs "On" and then go back to RX settings menu and select another option called "RX Start Speed" at the bottom of the selection screen (I had to scroll down past the visible portion of the display). Select 7200 bps vs. the default setting of 33,600 bps. Then I had my wife send a fax from work and instead of picking up hand set, I pushed the "Hook" button on the front panel and then hit the "Black" button. It then recognized the transnission. It took about a minute then the fax came through for me on a couple different attempts.

Canon fax 2060P not recieving faxes

It seems that the protocol is failing. Just check, by printing a receive report. If there are errors it is after the check frame. If no errors, it is failing before the check frame. In either case, 1st aid is to listen using a handset for noise or static on the line. If the line is clear, then you will have to call service to change the tx/rx attenuation.
