Question about Sanyo Televison & Video
The backlight has failed. Without a model number, it is impossible to say if the backlight is replaceable. Most units are connected directly to the panel - and replacing the panel is expensive.
It is recommended to purchase new... as replacement will cost more than the unit cost originally.

Sanyo is one of the most reliable tv products. Sorry you are having trouble. But, you should have returned the unit or sent it to warranty when you first acquired it - for the whining problem - because it is not normal.'
It will require a replacement of the high voltage flyback transformer and perhaps replacement of the horizontal output transistor - usually done at the same time. The cost will be over $150. If you really like the set it is worth it. If you were thinking about a new set with the advanced technology such as wide screen and hdtv reception, now would be a time to think about it.
Also try and get in touch with Sanyo - the number is in warranty section of owners manual - described the problem. Apparently this is not an unusual problem. They are sending me a USB device that apparently reprograms the software
Let me know if you have further questions.
