Hi,

Usually, if the brush is not spinning, the belt is the problem. Did you check to see that the belt is seated properly? Does the belt have anything rubbing against it that you might have picked up from the carpet?
On the Hoover Wind Tunnel, you can remove the unscrew the bottom plate and remove it with a phillips screwdriver., remove the agitator shield and check for objects stuck under it. Clean that area thoroughly and be sure everything is in place correctly.

Hope this helps. If it does, I would appreciate a vote or comment. Thanks,

Handie Andie

I had the same problem, and took the cover off the bottom and cleaned everything, and it still did not work, when I happen to notice that a little red reset button over the rug height panel on the top of the brush compartment had to be reset....AND IT WORKS GREAT......

I have a steam vac spinscrub carpet cleaner works good but it just started smelling like it was burning and started to smoke

Anytime someone says they smell something burning on any type of vacuum cleaner of carpet cleaner etc. All I can think of is the belt is rubbing on plastic which would cause the sense of something burning because you possibly are smelling the belt........

Vacuim sweeper motor has a high pitch squeal otherwise runs fine

If you can notice a smell of burned rubber near the sweeper, then you most likely have a slightly stretched belt. The belt would be spinning against the beater brush, causing the squeaking noise -- as it heats up, the belt will begin to smoke, or at least give off the smell of burned rubber. This will be the most noticeable if you use the vacuum for a few minutes and then turn it off -- most times the suction from the vacuum will pull the smell into the vacuum and keep you from noticing it until it has been going on for quite some time. Replacing the belt should fix the problem.
Before going out and buying the belt, you might want to check between the belt and the beater brush -- if there is a lot of debris between the belt and the beater brush, it will cause the same type of slipping as a stretched belt, and could also be the cause of your problem. Either way, to fix the issue, you have to open the bottom of the vacuum and take a look at the belt -- if it looks to be in good shape, move it around a little. If it has a lot of room to move, it's probably stretched. If you notice a big hair clog under the belt, this is most likely to be your problem -- clean that out and you should be good to go.

Brush will not turn

Assume that the belt is broken to the power brush /head. Did you happen to smell burning rubber or see small pieces of black rubber? Look in your manual for replacing power head/brushes belt! With the unit off , try turning the brushes by hand and clean them off of debris, etc., as well while there. See if you feel some tension or hear the motor moving inside, indication that the belt is still attrached and if it doesn't seem to have any resistance and you see small pieces of rubber and /or, the band/belt may have just broke from normal usage. WalMart sells most types or your local vacuum repair facility.. check the Yellow pages and let your fingers do the walking.. Good luck

My hoover elite rewind is making a louder noise and I can smell something burning when I use it. I have replaced the belt but this did not help.

the smell is either the motor or the belt, if motor hope it is under warranty, if belt make sure brush roll spins freely and replace belt, if brush roll not spin freely replace it first

The brushes on my kirby are not spinning. What could i do to fix this?

Sounds like a broken belt. Take it to service store or buy a belt and replace it yourself. It's actually more simple than you think. Good luck! Did you get a funny burning smell when the brushes stopped spinning?

Brush bar wont turn, Bissell smells like burning rubber

The belt just goes from the motor shaft to the brush roll. Do the ends of the brush trun freely, or is one of them froze up, if so replace the brush roll. If it is ok, try to turn the brush roll by hand, maybe the belt got pinched and won't move.

Burning smell

Unlock the sweeper brushes and take them out. on each end is a cup bearing and should be free of debris.
then check around and under the belt and likely there is debris wrapped around it.
the post is getting hot as your pulling too much of a load.
though if it continues the motor may have a bad set of motor brushes (inside the motor) or bad wiring (kinda unlikely).
