Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

I have a Kitchenaid cook top range. Model number: KGCS166GWH05 I am having a problem with the ignitor. Something in the circuit is shorting and it blows the circuit breaker. At first, it happened when cleaning the stove. It must have been water. I let it dry out and plugged it back in - no problem for about a month. Later - same problem. But this time, letting it dry didn't help. I plugged it back in and it blew just pressing down on the knob (even before giving it a turn)I checked the ignitors and they seem to be clean. I left it unplugged for about a week, lighting the burner manually because I didn't have time. Today I plugged it in and it blew the circuit immediately! (accompanied by a distinct "popping" sound) I'm not sure how I'm supposed to access beneath the knobs. Anyone got any clues? Thanks.

Is there a way of checking the spark module to confirm whether that is indeed the problem before I purchase the part? I do happen to own a voltmeter if that helps.

I finally took the lid off of the stove and, upon inspection of the ignition system, found that one of the control knob switches was burned out. This corresponds to the "harns-wire" part # AP3592411 in the aforementioned diagram. I see that it costs $53.56 to purchase the whole assembly including wires and all five switches. I am wondering if you think it's worth trying to look for the individual part somewhere since it looks like it's only a very cheap, low-tech part I'm needing to replace. Or maybe I'm being too cheap at this point? Meanwhile I'm going to do a little inquiry myself.

Thank you so much for your assistance!

Just to finish off the topic, I've installed the new part and it is back to normal. It was easy enough to do. Just put the new part in exactly the way the old one was installed. (With the circuit off, of course.)

    Thanks for your help!

You can check the continuity on spark module with a multimeter, also check if enough voltage is present on spark module connections.

I have checked that the complete part is available....its not available as individual part....so I believe its better buying that $54 part

How do I remove the top on a Kitchenaid Superba (KGST307GWHO) slide in range? I need to access the igniter electrode that seems to be shot.

Hello Barry;

My name is peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

Are you sure that it is the ignitor? It could be the ignitor spark module located behind the gas burner nob.

To determine which one is bad and save money, replace these components with good components on your range that are working.

Go into the following websites. In the sears website plug in you model number to get diagrams and part numbers. Search the internet for less expensive part cost.

The top oven not maintaining heat why plenty of reasons depending on age could be a weak ignitor, bad temp sensor, is the oven light on if so oven stops heating after 30 seconds any oven maintaining set point temp will brown and if left long enough burn

Why does the cook top burners click one time and do not light

Because "It" doesn't Like You! LOL OK really you have a bad Ignitor. It is the device that makes that "Clicking" sound. Though rare, they do fail. So you can replace it.

F6 on these models means that the cook relay on the control circuit board is shorted, and it is cooking anytime the door is closed.

We regularly repair such control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid with a one-year guarantee.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you prefer, you can buy a new circuit board (part number 8169733 for $150.27) from the Pros

They're our favorite supplier.

Dual fuel kitchenaid; burners work, oven does not

I had a similar problem. There's a thermostat before the control panel. You need to remove the knobs and the front panel to get to it. You'll also need to remove a couple of trim pieces to keep from bending the panel. The part number is Whirlpool W10017820, sells for about $40.

KitchenAid KGRT607HWH6 temperture, light, error code

F7-E1 - Common Switch Wire Is Defective - This error occurs when common wire to latch switch and door switch is shorted.
Check all connections at control board and at the latch switch and door switch.
If connections are ok, then check individual switches as outlined for the F5 error code.

I couldn't find an exact match for your fault code, but nearly every range fault code of F7 that I have experienced means you have a defective Electronic Range Control (ERC). This the electronic computer with clock and timer. The circuit board is usually not serviceable and has to be replaced. Usually an expensive repair. Sorry...I hope this was helpful in some way.
